Recommendations on Thunderbolt Storage Arrays

I've been using WD or Seagate USB3 drives, but want to get a storage array so I can swap out drives and cut cost of storage space as well. Anyone have experience with any particular brands they can recommend? Some brands I've seen around are Synology, Lexar and Drobo.

Drobo is very slow, because it does internal backup at the cost of data I/O speed. If you are looking at a RAID enclosure, Promise Pegasus is excellent. G-Technology also has the G Speed series with SAS, eSATA, Firewire/USB, and the G-RAID with Thunderbolt or Firewire/USB.

I've used both in a professional environment (we had about 100 G-SPEED es Pro units deployed) and they are very easy to work with. The Pegasus is also very nice. I would trust either of them with my data.

Thanks for that. Those seem to come with the enclosure and the drives. Are there options that are just the enclosure, that will allow e to swap in/out drives as needed? Any brand drives you've found more/less reliable?

I've been using Promise Pegasus - very much impressed with them. I can also recommend OWC - have been using their online store for many years now. Good prices and service.

I use a Drobo at my day job and a G-Tech for freelance/side work and have enjoyed both immensely. I've never noticed any sort of speed issues when editing (Adobe CS/CC) and the only bad thing I can say about the Drobo is it seems to make my office a few degrees warmer (never noticed any temp changes at home with my G-Tech drives).
