Recommendations for a mic stand

I have to do some shoots and don't have much help. The stand should have a telescoping boom. It should fold up for transport, be somewhat light weight, and preferably come with its own carry bag. It should also be very quick to adjust height and boom. Any suggestions?

If you aren't strapped for budget, get a fishpole, a C+ stand, and a C-stand mountable fishpole holder.

Can't say that setup will be under $200. Looking at $100-150 for the Century Stand, then another $100 give or take for a fishpole, then $20 or so for the fishpole holder.

The other option is the On-Stage Stands SB9600. It's a large recording studio model, but collapses for easy transport. You can probably find it for under $100.

You can get the Amvona C-Stands on ebay for less than $100 usually. They go for nothing but the shipping is expensive. They work pretty well.

In a pinch, it'll suffice... but just. Problem is that there's not a lot of overhead clearance, so you have to shoot tight. Those stands are made for voice and instrument on stage, and not for rigging overhead mics for TV/film.

And the tripod base for that mic stand is simply not that stable. You'll have to sandbag the crap out of that thing to keep it from tipping. I'd go with the aforementioned studio model. It little more bulky for transport... but sets up quickly and can get in close from farther away.

If this is the same as sold in Oz, and it looks and the price is the same, it's great. Solid, good locks, lightweight.

Cheers.

I have 15 of those with my live rig. Again, like the Samson version previously suggested, they'll do in a pinch, but leave little option for framing the shot and are not really that stable. Sand bags would be a must, especially if you want to extend the boom arm as far as you can. Shoot tight.

I don't really even like them as much on stage as they're a trip hazard and are easily knocked over in a busy area. But the options for cast iron bases are waning, and these do pack up nicely for transport and they fit the budget. BSW has a kit of five stands with a canvas bag for all of them, $99.

But for video production use, I'd go with the studio boom I mentioned earlier. It has folding legs that set up very much like a lighting stand or speaker stand. Other models have hinged legs that simply collapse under the force of gravity when the stand is lifted, so you can't adjust the footprint at all and the legs must be strapped together for transport.
