Recommendations for a good telephoto dslr lens for F3

Anyone knows about this lens?

Sony Carl Zeiss - 135mm F1.8 ZA Sonnar T* lens

Will this need an adapter even though it is a Sony product?

Any other good telephoto lens over 150 mm (non- cine) you would recommend?

Cheers

I'm using the Nikon 80-200mm and 80-400mm with good results. The 80-200 is very sharp and easy to use. It is heavier and shorter than the 400, but the 400 is good for pulling those long shots. When it's telescopes, you have to be very careful pulling focus on the 400 (I use a Chrosziekl with reverse gear). I'd like one of the faster fixed telephotos, but for the amount of use most people do with telephotos, I'd recommend either of these lenses. Get the 2.8 80-200 if you need the speed.

I picked up a Sigma 50-150 f/2.8. This is lens which Red re-housed for their now-unavailable 50-150 zoom. It has been discontinued for a while but got mine on eBay in practically new condition.

Thanks. There seem to be 2 slightly different 80-200 . One is AF-S (more expensive) and the other is AF-D. Which one did you recommend?

I got a brand-new 80-200 AF-D. From what I have read there is no difference optically between it and the AF-S. The AF-S is heaviere, but some say they like the action of the focus ring better. I didn't think the price difference was worth it.

Sigma's legacy 50-150 F2.8 is a great zoom range for APS-C sensors (same as F3). It is wide enough to give you a medium shot on sitdown interviews and has a good long end. This is the only game in town for a fast lens in that zoom range, production has been discountinued by Sigma but it's easy to find on eBay. It also has very nice focus and zoom rings which these days, have became a rarity. Nikon's high end 70-200 lenses are great but not very usable on sitdown interviews if you want to vary between a medium and a tight frame.

Thierry.

I was lucky to snag that sigma 50-150 on eBay. Sigma is rumored to be introducing new version with stabilization. Does us no good on F3 but will at least make lens available.
