Recommendation?

Showing six projects shot with the AF100 on 3 very large screens at an upcoming Gala . I'm making H.264 versions that will be played out of a laptop--->projector.
Anyone able to share suggestions for "optimized settings" for ideal playback?
CD-DVD/Download/Streaming? Bit rates?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

Thanx

1280x720
original frame rate
.h264 .mov or .mp4
5000/bits

This will look pristine IMO

Thanks. I've got them at full HD, h264.
I have some options on the pull down for DVD, streaming, download. Thoughts on that?
I wonder if there any loss in resolution from one setting to the next. I'm guessing it should be streaming since it's going to played off of a drive. Am I off?

You didn't mention playing them off DVD. You are limited to the DVD specs as for bit rate.
You have not mentioned frame rate.
If you have HD files using the h.264 codec then you're all set. Can you test playback?

Are you burning to a DVD to play from the laptop? or just playing files from the laptop hard drive?
What Edit program are you outputting from? What did you shoot the project on? (1080, 720?) How powerful is the laptop? ( I know some won't play a full res 1080 stream)

When I need to do stuff like this I export from the FCP timeline --> Quicktime Export, and then leave the settings to mirror the timeline. This gives a huge file… but great quality, if your laptop can drive it to the screens. I wouldn't fuss with DVD settings, since those will just lower your quality.

Test, fiddle, repeat. Can't stress the testing part enough… but I'm sure you know that.

I dont think you need "streaming" as the option in your encode.

I wouldnt.

You are playing back a file directly from the local source ( that the projector uses).

Projects originated in 108024p
Exported from timeline as h264 1920x1080 (I'm making 720 versions as a back up)
Optimized for download @ 6000 bits. Sound good?

I will be able to test playback a couple days before the event with the AV company. Don't wanna be running back and forth producing
different versions at the last minute. Nervous enough as it is.

Thanks a ton for the info guys!

Most theaters I have been to prefer Avids DNxHD. They have computers dedicated to video playback and that is that codec of choice for those computers. avid's 110 8 bit codec is more than fine at 1080p.
