hi guys, i bought a used sennheiser mkh 416 mic for capturing dialogue during movie shoots. now i need a recorder and perhaps a preamp too - budget is rather tight, around 600 bucks, so here is what i have in mind:

fostex fr-2le
pmd 661
edirol r-09hr + sound devices mm-1
sony pcm-m10 + mm-1
sony pcm-d50 + denecke ps-2
wait for the roland r-26
perhaps a used tascam hd-p2

so whats the best solution for this kind of budget?

Okay, cabusche, you have a list here. I appreciate your asking. Have you had the time to read the stickie on gear?

What experience do you have in audio? You will get as many opinions on this as the choices you gave.

This will help us to help you, trust me.

sony pcm-m10 + mm-1. Unless you're just doing audio. Then out of that list, maybe HD p2 and save for a mix pre and bag. If you don't work often another option is to rent.

Do you have a pole, mount, windshield, headphones, cables, lunch box? This will all eat up your 600 dollar budget.

thanks for the input guys. i have no experience whatsoever in audio and i would use my audio setup mainly for dialogue scenes. at first, my favorite (on the paper) was the pcm-d50 because its internal mics seem good enough for capturing ambience sounds without the need of a professional phantom powered mic - during the shoots, of course, i would use it with the mkh 416 and an external phantom power supply like the denecke ps-2. but now i have the chance to get a mm-1 and an edirol r-09hr at a very reasonable price, so i might go that route.

for a boom pole, windhsield and so on i got an extra budget - the 600 bucks i can spend solely on audio devices.
