recomanded tape model, cleaning cassette..

Hi everyone,
I have my dvx100A PAL for two weeks now and while I am really impressed
i have some questions too.

the mindv that comes with the camcorder is AY-DM63MQ on the manual
it recomands the AY-DV60, is the AY-DM63MQ better than the AY-DV60 or not?

is there a racomanded cleaning cassette model for this camcorder or would anyone do.

is there a way to plug the camcorder to a TV and see on the tv (used as a monitor)
instead of seeing on the LCD or viewfinder? I mean not seeing on tv in playback.

should one just record on a new cassette or should you first record blank footage
so as to set the timecode?

what is exactly with the colour bars, i recall that one should record a minute of
colour bars before any footage. what is the use of this exactly? the colour bars on this camcorder
are not adjustable or are they?and what is exactly the purpose?

is any harm done to the camcorder/cassette in the presence of an airconditionaire?
not due to the cold but due its' dehumidifing effect?

are there any detailed manuals on how to use the camcorder for PAL? i went through some NTSC versions that were available for US only.

thanks a lot.

Re: recomanded tape model, cleaning cassette..

Hi,

- Use the AY-DM63MQ tape for the DVX, it is the tape of choice and certainly better than the DV60

- You can use the Panasonic cleaning cassette (AY-DVMCLA) but general consensus on this board is to go with the MQ tape and have the heads cleaned by a professional every 100 hours or so, as the cleaning tape is abrasive and might destroy the camera heads

- To see the image while shooting, just connect your TV to the camera via the AV out (either S-Video or composite on the right forward side of the cam), it will display the same picture as the viewfinder and LCD

- Blanking tapes isn't considered necessary, just record 1 min of colour bars at the beginning to avoid dropouts. The color bars are used as a colour reference when transferring footage to editing systems.

- Aircon should be no problem, dry air is no problem for the cam, just the opposite (humidity) is bad.
