recent DVX shot project

Re: recent DVX shot project

Interesting piece, IAL. It's hard to tell what was shot on the DVX and what wasn't. I can make an educated guess but there is so much post-processing, it hardly matters.

Anyway, I'm not a big fan of these types of commercials but, given the circumstances, I think you did an excellent job.

Re: recent DVX shot project

Overall, nicely done. I liked what you did. Nice touch of emotion in the piece.

Good use of Magic Bullet in there. The only thing that I found problematic was the volume level of the "everyday people" at the end was too low for me to hear until I turned up my speakers. The rest of the audio was right on.

Question:
Was that your voice doing the voice over? If so, what did you use to create the effect over it?

Re: recent DVX shot project

hey thanks for the support guys

the voice over was me.. i only used a small bit of standard reverb to make it a bit more sustained, and sound like i was in a larger area. other than that i just physically changed my voice alot when recording it to try and sound like a former president or leader speaking on a junky audio system like you would hear on the radio at the time. ..pretty low tech. i hope my voice acting was at least semi up to par.

yeah, the old footage was from the prelinger archives ;)

the audio for the end was fine in my headphones, and monitors in the NLE, but it IS realy quiet on that file.. something might have been bumped before the export.. i was in a big rush ..and of course thats when stuff gets overlooked :-/ if they are going to use it.. ill be sure to fix it

due to the short time, i ditched my original idea, and put this one together cause it was doable ..some archive footage..some stills.. some stuff id have to drive around shooting as quick as i could.. and a little mess of blah filter proccessing to try to make it all blend together. i personally still dont know what to think of it. it certainly turned out to be a different flavor of project, but i hope i captured the message they were trying to convey well. ..who knows :P

Re: recent DVX shot project

well, ...so much for that. :P sorry guys...but even if i had the time to put into it i dont think i would've taken any winning spot based off seeing the approach taken by the winning bids. I was under a different impression of what they were looking for based off the description and criteria for the project. ..oh well.

Re: recent DVX shot project

I actually was too. Big time. I actually experienced this same thing before in another competition. Sometimes it works in your favor, other times not.

I would have approached like you did. What won were more like long commercials and did not really feel like short films. Very interesting.

Re: recent DVX shot project

I loved your piece Neil. The music, the imagery; brought some nice fuzzy feelings into play. Nothing at all wrong with an honorable mention! CONGRATS. BEats those who didnt do anything at all (cough cough). I did like the winning entry though. At least this time they picked a legit winner.

Re: recent DVX shot project

I actually enjoyed and appreciated yours a lot better than any of the ones that won. it just seems more proffesional and well done.

Re: recent DVX shot project

thanks guys.. can i have a hug? :P my wife actually already gave me one as i read the winners off while playing taps in the background. JK

..well,  in defense of the given guidlines for entry, and the winners ..it did say that it could be any format of film like commercial, documentary, or whatever you felt would fit the best.  i do very much congratulate the winners, and their hard work.  great job. i liked the winner as well.

but what i do have an issue with is that,
Nate..i remember your projects well and i thought they were dead on in appraoch and presentation, and deserved to win. but of course, thats up to them, im not saying anything other than what  they chose to represent themsleves should've won.. im only saying that what they said they wanted or needed, and what i was led to think they were looking for and needed.. was in alot of cases different from what they went with. i really think its just a case of bad direction, or adhering to their listed judging criteria by the people who want the project done(not medialiquid, but the people who have them project out the spot, and then do the final judging). and its frustrating to think that even if youve followed all the signs as best as you could, you've been off in running in the wrong direction the whole time. and of course it doesnt matter how good of an orange you make if they really want an apple  :-/

again..  oh well.  at least its fun to participate.   :P

on a side note.. i did steo up the ladder with the medialiquid team at least.. check outthe "first unit team" under announcments. out of 4,000 people thats pretty cool.

Cograts again loser. I agree with you that the winners seem to be different from the guide lines.
