Hey guys im just looking for a mattebox for my 5d so i can use some filters.

which ones do u guys reccomend, i want one to put on my indirails so one with rod support.

are the ebay ones any good? or the proaim ones?

the boxes are good ye. Don't buy any complex things like rigs though, it's sh*t, i've spent a lot on india products & although quality has improven the last couple years it's still a STRONG recommendation to stay away from everything-that's-not-very-simple, ie like matteboxes.

used to be a swing-away one for 500 bucks or so, still on my to-buy list.

I have an indian-made mattebox that I bought about a year and a half ago. I got it for $99 new on ebay from a seller that no longer exists (possibly affiliated with dvcity? the seller was called filmcity19), but I am very happy with it for the price. It appears to be the same matte box that indisystems sells for $350, except the indisystem version has a side flag option. It is not the most well made matte box but it has two 4x4 stages that rotate together and my favorite part is it has little adjustable internal doors for quick top and bottom cut adjustments without having to use the full eyebrow. It is very lightweight and small, a good size for a DSLR. I've used a lot of other more expensive pro matte boxes. I would probably say that even at $99, it probably competes quite well with any other <$400 mattebox. It appears to be a copy of this mattebox (for 1/7th the price): http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produ...DS_MB44_BXC_DSMB_44_BXC_Compact_DV_Matte.html

It looks like dvcity may still have the mattebox I have for $110: http://www.dvcity.com/dvshop/MATTE-BOX-SUNSHADE-FOR-DV-HDV-CAMS.html

BTW what kind of lens are you using? primes? non-cine zooms can be tough to use with filters in rod-mounted matteboxes due to all the telescoping.

to jump in here, we use the canon L glass zooms and other than the real wide (16mm) close up which distorts slightly along the edges, anything about 20mm and up all look great. we've put them side beside the primes at the same length and we cannot tell the diff. just the wide glass at like 16mm and close up will distort around the edges. if you need darker and lower light, then go with a prime.

on the telescoping . . how hard is it to loosen the matte box and slide it forward? watching the procityDV video it appears to be a cinch.
