Rec Review problem

I was out shooting golf today with the 300P, and for some reason sometimes when I hit the RET switch it would give me the "play" icon in the viewfinder, but wouldn't show the return video and would flash 'CANNOT PLAY'. When I got done with the shoot I tried it again and it worked. Seems to not be a pattern when it happens. The lens grip is so much smaller than I am use to, and I kept accidentally hitting the RET switch with my big fingers so I guess I might have confused the poor thing. Is there a memory that gets cleared with the camera last clip when it is power cycled? I can make it do the 'CANNOT PLAY' by turning off the camera and back on then hitting RET.

I was shooting with a pretty much empty 16 GB E-series card in slot 1 and an older 4 GB H loaner card in slot two (1080 60i DVCProHD) with latest firmware (9.300) from PASS site and full battery. Camera wasn't getting hot (low 80's outside and cloudy.) Camera has only 7 hours on it.

Yes, it has to remember the last clip. If you turn off the power and then turn it back on, it can't play the last clip. Also, if you change the rec format it won't be able to play the last clip either. There are some other conditions under which the RET won't work, they're listed in the manual.

Thanks Barry. I did a quick once over in the manual but didn't see anything about 'CANNOT PLAY' and very little about the Rec Review. I'll try again. I was in 1080 60i all day after I had formatted the cards.

One thing I didn't do when I received the camera was to put it on the power supply and charge the internal battery for four hours. I don't guess this could make it 'forget' the last clip while it was operating could it?

I was not aware of that one... I only put the camera on the charger to do the update...

Cheers

It was on page 150 of the manual under "Maintenance" section. I thought I read where it was supposed to be charged before using the camera, but maybe not. I think I have been up too long and have too many projects going on right now...

Cool... I checked it out and it does mention putting the camera on charger if it had been out of use for a while.... although with a new camera I would imagine the battery would be charged...

It does bring up a question though... does the camera need to been on a charger to charge the internal battery...???

Cheers
