Rebate Thief...or error

I posted something similar to this last summer, but it was oddly pulled from the boards...

I purchased my DVX100A from EVS sometime last spring, and when I received it the first thing I did was go to Panasonic's site to claim my rebate. But for some reason, the site would not accept my serial number no matter how many times I tried. I emailed Jan Crittendon who confirmed that my DVX was indeed a true market camera and she also checked my serial number, which she said was a legitimate serial number and qualifies for the rebate. Finally, she said that if the site wouldn't accept my rebate claim that I should go ahead and send it in via the paper route.

So I did, and waited months.

However, after never receiving anything in terms of cash back or tapes or a battery, etc., I got a letter late last year stating that they could not give me a rebate because the rebate for that specific serial number had already been claimed. I called Panasonic's rebate center (twice), and they again said that yes, the rebate had already been claimed on my camera! I told them that it must have been a mistake, or theft, as I purchased my camera brand new through a legitimate retailer. On top of that, I sent in the original UPC along with a copy of my receipt! They said that they'd call me back, but it's been over a few months and I have yet to hear anything from them.

Can anyone help, please?

Any possibility that YOU are the one who claimed it, and they SENT it to YOU (but you just never received it?)

Thanx for the quick response Vidled. But no, I did not receive anything. And plus, I asked the rebate center if they could give me the name of who received it, and they said they couldn't disclose that information. From that, I assumed that that name wasn't my name. Also, I would think that they would have mentioned that if it indeed was already sent to me in my name.

It seems like it would be fairly easy to prove that you did not receive the rebate. If you talk to someone, the RIGHT person, (Jan might do the trick), email her a scanned copy of your invoice with YOUR name on it. Ask her to please verify the name of the person who claimed the rebate. If she can, I'm sure she'll honor it.

That makes sense rlm7189. But I'm just really disappointed in the manner that Panny's Rebate Center has handled it. Basically, they ignored it.

Ahh, thats good ol' big business for you. On my train ride home from school yesterday, I read a very infuriating article about the big boys at ENRON. Many of them are getting away. You are dealing with a rebate and a book you rightfully own and deserve. But these clowns are getting away with murdering MILLIONS of dollars. You want to talk FRUSTRATING! ugh...
