Reasons for half-day Fridays...

When I started working here, we would work M-Th from 8-5 with a 1 hour lunch, and then F from 8-1 with no lunch. We would get half days on Friday's. It was pretty awesome! I loved it! But, due to "budget cuts" and "for the sake of productivity" they eliminated that in January without any heads up. I'm not complaining. It was really nice, and there was no reason to really allow something like that.

I just received an e-mail that stated they were contemplating starting it again, at least during the summer. So this is where you come in. You all seem to be creative. I need reasons, lots and lots of reasons, as to why we need our Friday's off. Any and all help is welcome.

They offer 'summer hours' in the publishing biz, but you work an extra hour M-Th...then leave 4 hours early on Friday. (June-August)

Probably not what you were looking for, but it works. Most people in the corporate world spend an hour around the coffee machine everyday anyway.

I sometimes go to lunch on Fridays, and by the time I'm into my third bourbon, they become half-day Fridays by default.

I usually work 5am-8am on Fridays if I'm not off all together because I edit the projects that shoot during the week here. I don't lose a vacation or personal day and I get paid for 8. the only bad thing is that the economy is hitting us pretty hard and I can only get 38 hours.

:laugh:Ha ha ha! These replies are hilarious! Ok, I should probably note that I work at a very conservative NPO where alcohol is a no-no. Not really sure "More time for beer" will go over well here.

Enhanced staff morale

Increased worker loyalty

Improved corporate reputation for worker treatment

Greater willingness on the part of staff to contribute the odd extra hour as needed by the company

Reduced power and utility costs

Better staff retention

I do some work for Nickelodeon, and Viacom has a summer friday policy. It's pretty common, I think. And it really does seem to increase moral. If I were an employee, I would much rather have 3 solid days off than 2.

So I think Max's answers are good ones to go with.

At Foundation Imaging we used to start cracking beers from the company fridge at about 1PM or so most Fridays. Until the staff expanded big-time and the company attorneys began bleating about liability etc...

I've heard enough stories from the folks I know over on the Microsoft main campus about certain departments bringing in kegs for their employees on Friday afternoons...

That said, Sad Max's earlier suggestions are pretty good. I know I'd like to work for a place like that.

On Avatar it seemed for a while like every Friday was someone's last day. And on people's last days we'd all take them out to lunch at a particular Mexican place in Santa Monica, and pitchers...and pitchers...and pitchers of margaritas made the rounds. I'm not much of a drinker, but by the end of some of those lunches I could barely stand up. I remember thinking well, if the sets come out all crooked, we'll know why...

I've heard the term "cracking beers" before but somehow when you throw in the 1PM on Friday part, it all sounds so new to me. Like a dream. Or heaven.
