Hey Everyone, I have a Panasonic HVX-200 and I was using a Powerbook G4 1.5gHz with a PCMCIA slot to load all the footage for 2 years. Suddenly, the slot started to malfunction and I couldn't get my P2 cards to detect apart from every blue moon.
I loathe having to take things up to Melrose Mac because they charge you 50 dollars just to look at it. I think the Mac store does something similar. And if you've ever been to either place, their stock response is, "We need to replace the logic board", which usually starts at 500 and then you can throw labor onto that. I was looking for any other solution that I could...
I walked into a neighborhood Mac service shop in Hollywood called Mac Horizons, and they told me that they could replace the PCMCIA slot without changing the logic board. The total price including labor: 270 dollars. You wouldn't even be able to get that kind of repair at Melrose Mac because they see the PCMCIA slot as being part of the logic board, so there...out goes the baby with the bathwater. So if you want service from less profit-driven repairmen, check out Mac Horizon on Highland and Fountain.
