Realtime Greenscreen compositing

I remember a link to a short video where someone developed a software/hardware that did live green screen compositing..... it had the ability compensate for pan, zoom, tilt; giving the effect the you were really at the location. But I can't find that thread here....... anybody remember the link or atleast the thread?

I remember it. Didn't see it here, but did read about it in the news. About four/six months back. I think it was a college/university in Boston - or up north at any rate. Can't find any mention of it in google news searching though. Someone must have bought it.

I think the BBC use some similar type of hardware, background does not only consist of greenscreen, it also has IR patterns that the software uses to do realtime 3d camera tracking.

I think the price was something like $80,000 (can't remember exactly) but was pretty expensive.

I've been looking out for some inexpensive solution.

//edit:

it seems that the cinital solution is a more expensive then a the BBC system, but it uses sensors retrofitted to a camera to detect the movement and focus as opposed to using patterns in the greenscreen.

hehehe, I have an idea....

Hmmm... is this software or hardware?

Seems pretty cool.

Don't news places use this sort of stuff for things like the weather...? I realize that the real time camera tracking and zoom/focus abilities is new, but hasn't real time green screen been around for quite a while?

Yeah, the locked live greenscreening stuff has been around for a while... and that's usually software or software contained on dedicated hardware. This has a lot more hardware in it for all the tracking and what not; plus software.

Correct, real time camera tracking and zoom/focus abilities is new.
LACQUER's Conduit is out for a while now, It's a realtime video and graphics compositing platform and renders in realtime even at HD resolutions. Conduit works in floating-point color (32 bits per channel)
The Conduit Suite containing all the plugins and Conduit Live is only $199

I remenber going to the national television here in the basque country and they explained us how they did the virtual sets. They said that the sytem they were using had been developed for or by the BBC.
The system used some kind of ir system on the camera that followed some trackers that were hanging from the ceiling. and then, for the key, they used some piece of hardware developed by silicon graphics with custom virtual sets.

But now they changed to a better building and have biggers stages, so they left the idea of the greenscreen.
