man do i feel like a blind man

So I downloaded and applied firmware with below settings to gh1 (NTSC).

"I've published an easily installable settings file, combining my 40Mbps AVCHD High Reliability Patch with my 35Mbps MJPEG In-Camera Playback Patch, in the pinned Settings Sharing thread:"

1) When i go into gh1 camera settings - am i not supposed to see some new menu items to reflect the new hacked settings? are the changes the hack makes "hidden" until you examine the movie file?

2) I would like to shoot in 24p best settings overall. I have read that choosing avchd in 1280x720 60fps looks better (then 1920x1080 24p 60i) when doing a pulldown to 24p - should i choose that or??

Before you get attacked, I'm just going to tell you no. You should not have applied the hack before you did your proper full research or you would not be here asking this question - but, being that I understand some people just go balls against the wall and then pay the price later, here are your best bets for help:

http://www.gh1-hack.info/wiki/PToolSoftware

http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2010...-shoot-super-high-quality-24p-video-and-more/

Read both of those fully and all the FAQs in the hack section on this site and THEN if you are still lost come back. Otherwise you are going to be pounced on.

I think those should set you straight though.

thanks....and i have read that. but no where have i read whether the hack actually changes any of the menu items in camera. just the firmware version....so it appears that the hack effect is only reflected in the post hacked video.

i know that is basic....but i really could not find any info on the site relating to that esoteric yet fundamental characteristic of the hack.

and go ahead and flame..i can take it lol

The hack does not change and make secret things available in your menu that were not there before as far as I know. It's been a while since I last tinkered with my settings after I hit what I considered to be the sweet spot, but basically you are setting up everything in ptools and then you patch it - so no - you don't suddenly get a "24p" option in your on screen menu on the camera if you checked 24pn on the hack. What happens is that when you shoot FHD, you are now just shooting at 23.976 which can be confirmed when you pull the footage off of the camera and onto a computer and either into a 24p timeline (some list 23.976 and some programs like Edius round up to 23.98) or check it with a codec info program like mediainfo or just check the clips properties.
