GH2 Really bad GH2 and AF100 red banding

I've searched and searched but can't find anybody else who's seen this. These are from both a GH2 and an AF100. If I hadn't seen it on both cameras I'd chalk it up to a faulty camera and send it in for repair or return.

I've read about subtle high ISO banding in shadows, but this is happening at low iso - GH2 was @ 160. Not sure about AF100 but I'm sure it wasn't much different.

Don't ask me why it always seems to occur in a car, but I'm sure it has something to do with the high contrast. I have a suspicion that it's related to the GH2's i.dynamic function (which was on in the GH2 clips) but I haven't been able to confirm. That function sounds pretty mysterious, but from what I gather it would most likely be engaged on these high DR shots. Sounds like the same thing as the AF100's DRS - which may have been engaged in the AF100 clip. I wasn't there for the AF100 shots, so I don't know much about how it was set up. Will try to confirm with shooter...

Too bad cause the GH2 is a pretty radical little camera in most regards. But this substantial issue showed up within a day of unboxing it. Has nobody else seen this or have I not dug deep enough in these forums?

I saw this in the GH2's LCD so at least you can catch it if you're monitoring carefully. But it's seems to a very fleeting glitch.

I've looked at hours and hours of AF100 footage and only seen it once. So it's very rare on that camera.

Will be trying to replicate it under a more controlled environment when I get a chance and fiddle with iso's, i.dynamic settings, codecs etc.

And no it's not lens flare.

andy never seen this before so I cant comment on the cause. Ive NEVER seen this even reported before on the AF100 (not to say it hasnt). But what perplexes me is this occurred on a gh2 and an AF100 on the same shoot or on same related shoot different days?

Can you be sure that the guys who said the clips were shot on the AF actually shot them on the AF? The reason I ask that is, there seems to be a bit more cmos issue on that shot than Im used to seeing on the AF100. Just thoughts.

Are you sure it's not lens flare, 'cuz it sure acts like it - like a really ugly bad anamorphic flare. What lens was it and is it the same one on both cameras?

Different days, different shoots, different cameras. Exact same red electronic/digital horizontal red banding (not lens flare!). Perplexing indeed...

I'd seen the clip with the buildings at sunset before, but the bikini girl clip I hadn't. That one seems a lot closer to what I'm seeing - although still not as bad.

A large clipped area center frame with darker surroundings seems to be the trigger - in case anybody else wants to "try" this at home. Guy I work with has another GH2 so I'll see if I can get his to exhibit the same behavior.

This indeed is very strange. Is there anyway you can get your hands on a different camera other than the gh2, and af100. Im curious to see if it's some sort of phenomina that is occuring from the lighting in the car, or if it's some kind of reflection that human eyes casnt pick up, but a sensor can. Just a thought.

I was able to replicate it on the GH2 outside of a car just this morning by pointing it out a window.

I confirmed that:
1) you don't have to be in a car to see it.
2) it is not affected by the i.dynamic setting. Tried off and high and saw it with both.

Stay tuned - I may be able to get my hands on a 2nd GH2 and and an AF100 later today.

looks like sensor banding to me...very similar to Panasonics tz10 or lx5...but these use ccd sensors and is quite common...not common on cmos...so yeah strange!

Did you see this in camera when recorded or just when imported into your NLE?

While recording w/ GH2. Can't say for sure on the AF100 cause I wasn't the one who shot it. The guy who shot it is out until next week. I'll try to find out more when he gets back.

Very strange, I've not seen those artifacts when shooting similar frames on my AF100. Will be very curious to see what you find.

I hear ya.... I've even seen similar vertical banding on a 3700 (ccd) - though it's not nearly as objectionable.

im confident that this is caused when there is a very bright object in shot that is too bright for that area of the sensor, this cause those full lines of the sensor to play save and protect itself from damage.
in this case it seems to go red.

If you or someone can reproduce this with a GHx series camera(or AF100), can you or someone try with an IR filter?
