Real or Fictional World-Class University?

Okay, I am a little stuck. I am writing an adventure/fantasy script that begins on the campus of Magdalene College at Cambridge. However, the more I write, the more I think that perhaps I should replace Cambridge with a less specific, fictional university. It is a big part of the story and I think I might be able to craft my story in a little more believable fashion if I create a U. What do you think? Does that take away from a story? Obviously it HAS to be British.:) Also, I would love some suggestions for names (just please don't suggest Oxbridge!!!:furious3:). haha

Thanks for any insight guys.

Another option would be to make up a fictional college at Cambridge, that way you get the advantage of the overall setting but can make up all your college's details, just make sure you're vague about where geographically in Cambridge it is. On the other hand, if you'd like your script to be filmed without the expense of shooting in the actual Cambridge, inventing a fictional university in a fictional town would be a lot more practical.

Names: Sandringham, Frogmorton, Grimehurst

You could do either (make up something or use the real uni), but clang has a nice suggestion and that could work.

If your spec does sell, then legal would run through it and suggest changes to certain things that would get the prod company sued, so they'd probably change it anyway if you used Cambridge (but again, that's not for you to worry about, it's legal).

Thanks for the points. Great input. Frogmorton...that's great!:)

Appreciate the comments guys. I kind of like the idea of a fictional college within Cambridge. Yeah, the cost and logistical nightmare of filming there had occurred to me. So inventing a place is always a plus in that department since you can just tailor your story to what you have available. Still...I want to be credible, y'know?

Be carefull "Frogmorton" doesn't get you done by the Tolkein estate, they appear to be touch litigatious these days. Camford or Fordbridge seem reasonable, otherwise, a fictional college has oftem been used.
