hey all!
WHAT ARE THE QUALITY DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE F6 AND F5 MODES ON THE VIDEO CAPTURED... AND ITS 'FILM LOOK' ??

very new to this, been a viewer for ages and just got myself the 100b finally,
i would aprreciate you guy's giving some input!
THANKS DUDES!

f5 is 24p and f6 is 24pa. They're settings are a little different as well (i.e. one is thick, one thin).

If you edit in a 24p timeline, shoot 24pa (it has better pull-down removal). If you edit in a 60i timeline, shoot 24p.

I went through and changed all the scene files to 24pa (except for 1 file at 30p for slowmo).

Hope this helps.

Congratulations on your new camera, by the way.

thanks dieselfoot! starting to clarify a bit!
I use premier 1.5, does this mean i edit in a 24p timeline? and why did u use 30i for slowmo, is this because 24 is slightly jumpy?

I added you to my friends list on myspace, cool stuff!

I'm unfamiliar with premier, but I imagine it's pretty much the same for all NLE's. Yes, I would shoot 24pa and edit in a 24p timeline. As for why I shoot 30p for slow-mo; I get more frames per/sec. while still getting progressive footage. Then, I slow it down (something like 40% or whatever gets the footage back to 24fps), and that gives me smooth slow-mo while retaining the progressive quality.

I take it you haven't received Barry's book and DVD yet. You are in for a treat! Your understanding and appreciation for the DVX will grow in leaps and bounds once you read it.

Good Luck!

I havent recieved the book yet... a little worried too? bought the camera from b&h and got it shiped here to South Africa.....grrr not sure what cracking with the book deal?

I'm glad u like the myspace... how's our top8!? haha

Thanks for the reply I will find out if premier has 23.98 timeline... i'm sure it does tho'

can someone tell me how i go about selecting to edit in a 23.98 timeline in PREMIERE 1.5 ?

thanks!

When you start a new project a NEW PROJECT window appears... easiest way is to select the pre set tab and click on Panasonic 24p folder... choose the one you want and your set.

As deiselfoot alluded to the scene files arent relative to how the cam shoots insofar as they are only programmed with particular regular use options.

The scene files can be re asigned to any option, 24p, 24pa, 30p and 60i. I usually re programme to suit footage based on tests I have undertaken before a shoot.
