Ready to PURCHASE a new DVX - But where?

I would recommend testing your workflow with 24p before doing any critical shoots. Record, capture, edit and export to whatever format(s) your final video will be seen in. Depending on what you are shooting and your personal preference you may or may not want to use the 24p. Personally I only use it for some interviews, maybe half. I don't really like the look with any action shots, it looks too jumpy to me and not as crisp and smooth as 30fps. Again, this is my personal preference so test away.

I thought the entire point of the DVX was the 24p.

I have a VX2100 for when I want 30fps... :(

Well it's not the "entire" point. Not for everyone. There are many other features that made the DVX the hoss dog of its time. 30p is different from the 30fps you are talking about, which is 60i... interlaced.... 30 p is still pure progressive frames :)

But, if then entire point for you is 24p, well, then you have it :)

Way back when we had a functioning DVX we shot mostly in 30 but we shoot mostly sports. Another thing to take into consideration when deciding on frame rates is some NLEs don't play nice with combining 24p and 30 footage on the same timeline. So if you plan on shooting interviews in 24p and then footage in 30 make sure your NLE can deal with that.

I guess I need to wait for my Mr green DVD & Book to come before I understand this new camera fully.

I cant wrap my mind around the different frame options, when to use them, and why.

I know how to edit in true 24p thanks to the sticky in the VEGAS forum and the video by the mod there.

But I guess, I just want to be able to get the great looking footage out of this camera like you see in so many internet shorts.

I took it out last night to film in low light, and i almost cried. The picture was so, damn, dark. It was just ridiculous. My VX2100 lights up the night like it was day, which has always been my favorite feature about it...

I knew my DVX would not be as good at night, but I didn't know it was just completely WORTHLESS in low light. :(

The DVX is a great camera, but low light is a week spot. Are you trying to shoot a racetrack?

Yeah,

In actuality, I will be shooting with this camera in a very bright place. I work at the texas motor speedway, which is a huge place (2nd largest sporting venue in the world). My goal with this camera is to create a series of dynamic marketing pieces to put on social networking and media sites.

Our company, the texas driving experience, is a entertainment/driving school. We have a fleet of Z06 corvettes, that we take people around in rides, teach them to drive, or alot more. We also offer teen schools, corporate team building, and high end meeting spaces. I am the marketing director.

I have created my own DVD before and sold hundreds of copies, made more than 60 videos that have over 10,000 views, and a few that have 200,000+, and also am a master in photoshop and advertising. Of course, in a site with members of this caliber I am a small fish, just trying to emphasize that I am not a pure amateur to filming and marketing.

My strong point is advertising, which is how I have got 250,000+ views on some of my videos, which in comparison to some of the shorts on here, are crap. But thats just the thing, if you know how to sell and promote yourself, the "crap" will still get seen. But I am ready to take it to the next level, shoot and produce quality shorts and aggressive marketing pieces that are compelling and entertaining.

And when I had $XXXX to spend on whatever I chose, I chose to get a DVX and gamble on the internet population to market our products.

So here I am with this new piece of what might be somewhat outdated equipment. My mission, is to learn how to use it inside and out, and make effective use of its features for our company.

Oh yeah, our website if you have a moment.
