Ready to Kill- 3 min short shot with consumer camera

Hey guys...this short was shot in like an hour and a half. Me and my friends were bored so we decided to pick up the camera and make use of our new airsoft guns we got. We were going to make it longer with a shoot out and everything but we didn't finish it and my friend didn't want to shoot today, so I just made it this. I made this footage really shaky. It's a sort of different approach. Although shaky, it still looks pretty cool. A lot of movies do it. That's what I was going for. Well...let me know what you think.


P.S. I loved the last shot. I don't know why it looks so much like film, but it's probably because of the shallow dof or something. I don't know. Tell me what you thinkg.

It looks like there might be some good color correction here but I can't tell because of the compression. Everything I see on Putfile.com looks like crap (because of the compression not content).

All in all it was kind of like watching a porno where they fondle chess pieces or eat food in a suggestive way while having have lots of innuendo laden dialogue only to roll credits when the chick starts to take her top off.

The guy could've gone to the back yard, and opened his bag in like two shots, instead of opening his bag in the front yard, walking through a gate and then opening his bag again to take out his phone, in like 7 or 8 shots. Then you could have actually had a shoot out of some sort.

Your friend's a douche for not shooting today.

Also you said this was shot on a "consumer cam"? If its not a DVX the Mods will move your thread or lock it down cuz you aint supposda post here unless its DVX footage.
 
Pretty major let down that nothing happens in the end, I liked some of the shots with the guns being taken out though. But overall I'd have to agree with most of jdanstan's comments about the porno with no pay-off and about the 7-8 shots used to fill time before he... well, before he does nothing :P

Some good shots and good CC for a small little project. Keep it up :)
 
when you take an approach like shaky shots, many cinematographers use that method for a good reason... adding to the plot or explaining something about the theme/characters. it kinda works here... but using it cause its a cool method doesnt always cut it. if you had a better reason that would add more depth to your film...
also might wanna consider better sound.. the guns still sounded plastic

You know what's funny about that - the guns sounding plastic -- I had the same problem in a short I did where the heroine unloads into this guy and then drops the gun on the drive way, "CLACK". -- But the Ironic thing is that these blowback guns are potmetal and roughly the size / weight of the real thing. After getting a note or two on it I said to my self "Well if it doesn't read it doesn't matter that it would really probably sound that way, so I better foley it with something else." Now when I say "foley" I actuall mean, get it from my 12 gig sound libarary. I had 20 different SFX for guns dropping or skidding categorized by caliber of gun and surface material dropped on, from 22's o 45's on wood and brick, and by damn they all sounded fake too, even though they were recordings of real guns being dropped. It actually took a bit of exoirimenting, and I ultimately wound up taking the sound into Cubase and dropping the pitch without altering th speed and adding reverb, to get the gun drop to sound less plastic --- so that one's an absurdly sticky wicket.

The shaking of the camera may have been used if there was an actual shoot out. Maybe him reaching for another gun in the line of fire. There was some good shots in the clip, wish there was more to the ending, tell your friend to get more motivated! :)

I dunno, they used that shakey **** in Bourne Identity 2 or whatever; I didnt like it. There was too much of it. The handheld look was just too distracting.
 
Yeh, Bourne Identity 2 had it too. Yeh, I think it would work better if I did that in a shoot out scene. Like reloading a clip while getting shot it and getting glimpses of his face and everything. Well...this acting isn't great so it's hard to do that but you get the picture. Since I'm taking a break on shooting my feature and postponing it till next summer, I have a lot of time for experimenting.

Alright, I'll ask both of my friends if they want to finish off this short. What do you guys think should happen? I mean, obiously, the owner of the house pops out with a shotgun and starts shooting the other guy. But what should I do to make it cool. Like a little story or something...I don't know...throw some ideas. I was thinking of maybe having a fist fight as well. I just finished beating Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater for PS2, they had this awesome cinematic scene where Snake was fighting with Ocelot. It was so cool. The movements and moves and stuff. Made me want to pick up a camera and start shooting.

So let me know...we can start shooting on Monday or something. School will start the 30th so we have until then to shoot. I need to take advantage of these days. Only thing is, the sun might be out the next day we shoot because that day was overcast. But it's alright...it's only a having fun shoot. LOL!
