i currently film with an HVX but am looking to add on with another cam.
i have never owned a still camera in my life.
i am currenlty looking at nikon because i already own nikon lenses for my letus extreme.
what dslr would you recommend for video and stills?
ive been looking into the d3100 or d90.

What do you recommend in my situation to match footage with my hvx?

THANKS

You can use those Nikon Lenses with the Canon's as well. Is the d3100 that new one that just dropped?

Look into a hacked GH1 as well. Great cam.

do i need an adaptor to work those lenses on a Canon or is al universal. like i said, never owned a still before.
yes its about to release soon. it seems so fit my workflow with a h.264.mov format 1080/24, 720with mulitple frame rates.
but then again your not the first person to recommend the gh1.
from what i read i need an adaptor to fit my nikons on the gh1?

Richard ive seen you on DVXuser since the beginning and never got a chance to view your work untill now.
your very good at making your ideas come to life. i think the technical term would be director. haha
congrats on all the hard work. it was well worth it.

You need an adapter to put the Nikon lenses on anything other than a Nikon. I can't speak to the GH1 adapter, but for Canon cameras, The adapter I use costs $14.99. Works great, and no issues.

I'd keep an eye on that new Nikon camera just coming out. Read some reviews once it ships before deciding to purchase. Nikon has been WAY behind the curve in terms of HDSLR video, and they are going to have to knock one out of the park for me to take a good look at them now.

The GH1 has some great potential, but it's gotta be a hacked one, and I don't know if the new ones can be hacked yet.

Yes, you will need an adaptor to put Nikon lenses on a Canon, or GH1. I use a T2i, and use an inexpensive adaptor. I am very pleased with how it works. There are a lot of threads comparing the T2i to the GH1. I am very pleased with the T2i, but I think that either choice is good.

Richard, I agree.... You Rock!.

im sure the d3100 isnt the only camera coming out. should i wait a little? with my previous luck i purchased my laptop 2 weeks before the new macpro came out. And bought fcp6 a few weeks before 7 came out. freakn technology for ya!

I just heard about the Canon 60D, if you are interested in a Canon. Does anyone know when that is coming out?

the new Nikon 3100 only has a 230,000 resolution on its LCD. good luck for anyone wanting to attach an eyepiece for focusing. the 920,000 is barely enough resolution when magnified on most other camera bodies.

i guess thats why they added the autofocus for video. all theses functions mannn.... and i thought my hvx was complicating.

I highly recommend getting the gh1 or canon - 5d, 7d, t2i. Just look at the action on those forums in comparison to the d90. (I guess the 5d isn't that loud but I think it's because of the price point). Logically speaking, I'd feel more comfortable with companies that actually build camcorders vs a still photography company that has video on its cameras. And like everyone said, if you like the nikon glass you can still use it.
