READ BEFORE POSTING: FAQ/GENERAL INFO on MAGIC CAM (EVOLVING)

On the subject of the baked in white balance point. The white balance you shoot at is taken note of, but is adjustable in post. This is how RAW works on any device that shoots RAW and will be no different on the magic cam.

Right, this is how it should be with RAW and the DNG workflow. It's confusing because John said that the white balance was set, but because it's raw you don't have to worry about it much. You shouldn't have to worry about it at all, as it's just metadata/reference.

WIth ProRes LOG and DNxHD, yeah, it's definitely important, but RAW really shouldn't matter. Waiting for BMD to comment.

Can anyone tell me if they saw any audio meter display on screen? I've watched tons of videos of the camera and I've seen a way to adjust the levels in the menu but that's not enough for me. I'm hoping there will be meters and a way to adjust the levels independently while shooting. I've asked this a couple times on some different sites and no one has responded anywhere. I realize a lot of us are used to Dual audio systems and camera reference audio but this camera seems to me like that should not be needed.

I know everyone wants answers now, but frankly the camera is not in a state where definitive answers can be given. Example: there's no f-stop readout. At all. You have absolutely zero idea what f-stop you're shooting at. I asked the guy at the booth about it and he said "that's coming". So I wouldn't get hung up about audio meters, I'm sure they'll be there, but the only way we will know for sure is when the camera is actually shipping in its final state. It was in a premature state at the show, and not entirely representative of what the shipping product will do.

Thanks Barry I'm not hung up about the meters I'm just hopeful and I thought someone who was there might have seen something I didn't see from the videos online. You are correct though it's still very early and there is lots to come.

I see on the LCD screen that there is a selection for VIDEO or FILM dynamic range... Anybody know what thats about?

It may have to do with the viewing LUT, see the FAQ. It also may have to do with how ProRes is recorded. Definitive answers are needed, hopefully in the coming weeks.

I should actually post this in the opening thread... I shall.

What about ISO on the low end?

What about ISO on the low end?

Anyone know what the lowest ISO is on this camera? On clear and sunny days, I'm hoping 6 stop of ND would suffice since I'll be using low apertures to get a low DOF (especially with the smaller sensor). I hope it's lower than 400 without compromising on dynamic range.

Right now it's only 400, 800 and 1600.

Sorry if this has been addressed, but I'm on a PC. How do I get RAW footage onto my PC or even the Prores footage? I've never heard of Thunderbolt til this camera was announced. So, I'm kind of in the dark. Just curious. Do I need some kind of SSD hardware reader for PC? I'd hate to preorder and discover I have to spend another $1,000 in order to get the footage onto my pc. Thanks!

Is it confirmed that recording to Prores is only at 1920x1080? I was really hoping for Prores at 2.5k with 13stops DR.

Prores is from the 2.5K, so scaled. John says the log pro res file is pretty darned close in DR. Choice is yours. They want you to shoot raw, that's their goal.

You can offload with something as cheap as an external pocket drive USB connector from seagate. Although it will be a little slow using usb2.0. Google around for SSD or hard drive docks.
