I loved the bullet time. Though it may not be the best ever, and could be considered cheesy, it's great that you are trying to do **** like that, it'll only help in your progress.
I thought the (spoiler!!!)..... pocket watch saved him as the bullet hit it. Would have liked it if he had actually lived and the other guy left convinced he had won.
Sure this is a combo of Leone/Kill Bill, but good on you for going with what's popular. The music really shows the Kill Bill influence as some of it is directly from Kill Bill.
The shots in the bar were kinda weak, didn't like the shot selection or composition very well, but the outdoor Leone shots were great!
If you did a Spanish(Latin?) gangster series I'd for sure watch!
since this was for a festival, you may not have had time to fix the audio. But if you want to have your films taken seriously you'll need to fix it up so that there isn't wind interference or different levels of audio getting in the way of enjoying the picture.
Yeah, we didnt have much time to worry about the audio as we had to do everything in less than 7 days!!
but now that the tape is already in it's way to the contest i'll take my time and fix everything on that matter!!
the soundtrack i did all the work, composing and recording.. and only got the kill bill references to that after you guys talk it about it!!!
great work for such little time man! it was a joy to watch, some of it was a little cheese, but it was enjoyable non the less. there were a few moments where i was a little confused about the characters, cant tell you which moments right now, id have to go back and look. i like the actors, and some of the lines where great.
well done! these little short film competitions seem pretty fun.
Well i'm glad that a lot of you got the Leone references (actually a lot of shots i got directly from his film, just like Tarantino did, probably that's why a lot of ppl is comparing it with kill bill )
I tought i share some techspecs of it:
Shot in 24pA with Anamorphic Adapter and matte in FinalCut for the 2.35 aspect ratio.
All the color correction and composition was also made in FinalCut.
We had a crew of 4, but most of the work was made by me (director, audio, music, edit, special fx, acting) and my co-diredtor ( camera work and screenplay) and also we only had 7 days to do everything (actually the contest gave us 14 but i was away for most of the first week so all the work had to be done in 7!)
now that the deadline has passed i'll take my time with the sound design...
but i'm glad that all of you guys had a good time watching (that was my aim in doing this film ;D )
ps: taubkin entra lah no meu site que tem mais uns filmes nonsense... e tb lah tem meu email.. vamos nos falar ae!!
Marluco, Bravo all the way. I agree, Sergio Leone would be very proud.
My team also entered the contest. We are in heat # 2, the musical about a bad habit. We also finished in time and the tape should be there this afternoon. As soon as I can, I'll post mine. You have a very good chance at this and making it to NYC to compete. We were finalists last year and it's a great experience, hopefully we'll win our heat and repeat this year. Anyway, I liked your movie a lot. It takes a lot of effort to put together something in such short time, you should be very proud of yourselves.
Anyway, good luck. Maybe we'll meet in NY in October.
Some obvious problems that have already been pointed out... most notably the sound. Aside from the location dialogue recording popping all over the place, the music mixes were gettin' kinda weird in spots. Overall seemed like it might've been a bit rushed... but I guess it was if you did it all in that short a time.
Some very cool stuff too. You pulled the split screen sequences off pretty cool... i liked your music (mas não ouvi bossa nova nenhuma). Generally just some good ideas.. I'd love to see something you put more than a couple weeks into (or this after some more sound work).
