F55: Re: The MOST POLARIZING camera?

I have an issue with it since the BASE ISO for the SLOG2 and SLOG3 is lock at 3200. For me this, means that the camera should be usable and clean from there. Don't say base iso is 3200 when it's not clean and unusable in various PP.

I have had my camera for 2 weeks and shot 2 car reviews in HD with it and I have about 10 videos to shoot next week at the Montreal autoshow. We shall see how it performs.

But isnt that the whole point.. 0db is NOT 3200 ISO for all the PP.. some its 1000 ISO.. maybe the camera should change ISO automatically as it does with the F5.. then its up to you if you want to push it or not ..

Don't forget that the base ISO for S-LOG2 assumes you are exposing by Sony's own guidelines to put whites at 59% or medium gray at 32%. And S-LOG3 would be 61% for white and 41% for gray. So if you're pushing your exposure higher than those targets, say putting whites up around 80%, then the camera's base ISO for S-LOG is only 800. If you push it to 90%, as you would do with the CINE gammas, then the ISO is only 500 for S-LOG. In other words, the "base" sensitivity depends on how you define what the "correct" exposure should be for S-LOG.

Also, if anyone actually takes the time to measure the base sensitivity of S-LOG (if you expose whites around 60% as Sony recommends) it isn't 3200 anyway. It's really around 2500, regardless of what the camera says in the viewfinder. Sony is over-stating the camera's sensitivity. Check it yourself.

By the way, I don't use ISO, I use Gain, but those are the numbers if you check them.

I'm sorry to ask here Doug but are there gonna be a Master Classe Video as well as a Field Guide Book for the Sony FS5, as there are for the FS7..?

And when are them expected to be ready for deliver?

Hi Henry,

I've been working full-time on producing an FS5 master class since Thanksgiving and hopefully it will be finished by the end of January. Right now it looks like 19 chapters and 5 hours. A book may follow at the end of February or early March. The project is taking longer than expected because I also fell for he false marketing that the FS5 is a baby FS7. When in reality, the cameras could hardly be more different.

Thanks for asking.
