re: Simple question for the DVX Gods...

Hi guys,

I'm making my first documentary...have grants to make it....I just bought the Panasonic DVX100B...should I shoot in 24P Mode or 24P Advanced Mode? I'm pretty sure I'm going to be editing on a Mac Final Cut Pro system...maybe an Avid...but it will be top of the line... Any thoughts on this?

Thanks,

Brian

What he said. The latest FCP and Avid will have the ability to edit in 23.976 so you can shoot in 24pA. However, the only real benefit for you to do that is if you are hoping to make a film transfer of your work, otherwise I'm just as happy with the 24p on a 29.97 timeline which shoots it in a mode that will work better with video (but either will work.) So it's your preference. With your software you just need to make sure you have the right timeline to match up to the progressive format you used. Easy way to remember it is 24pA is actual simulation of 24 fps, 24p is a video equivalent.

If you will need to combine other video footage with your footage for your doco, you might want to use 24p Normal and edit in a 29.97 timeline. If the whole doco will be purely your video, 24pA has some advantages (better compression).
