FS5: Re: Sennheiser MKE400 or Rode Video Mic Pro

Re: Sennheiser MKE400 or Rode Video Mic Pro

Anyone tried using these mics (or similar) with the FS5?

Does it work ok? I'm guessing we'll need an XLR to Mic Input adapter?

Not used either of those, but use this from Ambient: http://www.pinknoise-systems.co.uk/ambient-tinymike-atm-216-mini-mic.html

I used to use the Rode VMP in my DSLR days, and I can assure you that despite being a similar size, the TinyMike gives a significantly higher audio quality, similar to the Rode NTG-3 or 4. I would recommend considering it.

Edit for clarity: The Ambient Tinymike is actually natively XLR-based, and (reassuringly) will draw +48V phantom from an FS5/7.

Personally, I would avoid both. I have the Rode Video mic Pro, from my DSLR days, but I upgraded to the Sennheiser MKE600, and its much better, and not that much more expensive. Worth the extra money though.
