So, I just had my camera in for a service and firmware update. I think we're up to v 1.30 now on the EX1R.

I've been told and the Sony website concurs, that the SxS-1 card will now have a media life indicator in the view finder. That is - how much life the card has before it spits it out.. it's supposed to be displayed as a percentage.

Well it doesn't show automatically when I turn on the camera, and I can't find anything in the manual of course, as that was written before the update. There's also no new function appeared in the menu.

Any ideas? This is a really useful function and I'd like to use it.

Also - it is supposed to give the choice of now using FAT files - which reportedly give more HD recording minutes on the card.

I'm worried that will affect my workflow and I won't be able to access my files. Anyone tried it? I use FCPX....

All EX1R cameras have always used FAT files, so there is no change there with the new firmware.
I don't have an EX1R handy to check right now, but on a PMW-100, the "life" percentage is shown on the BATTERY/MEDIA status page. Check there and I'll bet you find it.
You can relax because there is nothing about the firmware update that will affect your workflow.

Downloaded v1.30 from the FTP site this morning. Since I am starting at v1.11 I have to do v1.20 and then v1.30. I am hoping all goes well.
 
I went to the sony site to download the update , I am in New Zealand and it seems to register I need to have a US address is there a site were I can download update if outside the US
 
Did anyone find out if there is a media life indicator after updating to 1.30, I have updated but can not find it
