Re: Is Canon planning on responding to Nikon's "Cinema" DSLR's?

Looks like with the D4 and D800, Nikon is really showing that it is serious in grabbing market share from the DSLR cinema community.

Is Canon going to put aside it's internal differences (Camcorder vs DSLR department) and just put those cinema features in their next DSLR that we've ALL been asking for?

Love the user selectable multiple crop factors!

But they already have announced the Cinema version of EOS-1DX some months ago... 4K DSLR, with maybe also other cinema specific features. Also a set of manual only cinema primes for Canon FF DSLRs. Where have you been?

Announced on paper, and price? Show us the goods Canon.

They told that they're working on it and it can be possible. We'll see a dslr 4K system...one day...but not now. That's what they wanted to told us. I talked a lot with the european Canon representant when they introduce the C300. That's what he told me in french "Tant que le 4K ne devient pas une référence, comme l'est le HD actuellement, il n'y aura pas de systeme 4K" wich means "No 4K system until 4K becomes a reference as the HD is now"

Personally, I'd rather have more dynamic range and increased video quality than resolution. 4K is too painful to edit and store.

4k is neither hard to edit or store.

In CS 5.5 I can edit raw 5k .r3d files all day long and storage is getting cheaper every day.

You must have a good computer then, editing Red Raw files just slows my PC to a hault.

And that's without going through CineX or whatever that utility is. So the 4K needs some kind of compression to it to work smooth I suppose.

if the canon 5dm3 dosen't have 8bit 4:22 clean output like the D800 then I will consider switching to Nikon.
