Re: DSLR 24p vs 23.97p

Re: DSLR 24p vs 23.97p

I have a T2i and T3i, they both seem to record in 24p. I use Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 as my NLE.

What is the best way to bring the footage into PPCS5.5 and then render out?

PS: When I bring it in, I use the "AVCHD 1080@24p" setting. Does this mean my timeline is 24p or does PPCS5.5 convert to 23.97p?
Furthermore when I render, I use "H.264 1080@24p", again is this actually 23.97p or actually verbatum 24p?

The reason why I am asking is because I think when the file is played back, the player (i.e. Windows Media Player or a Bluray Player or Media Box) seems to want to play it back at 23.97p which appears to cause audio syncing problems.

Help!

There is no conversion. In these cases 24p is shorthand for 23.97p. Even if it weren't, Premiere handles mixed frame rates effectively enough that you wouldn't really notice and you probably wouldn't see audio sync issues as a result. Where does your audio actually come from? My first thought is that, if you're trying to play the raw AVCHD files, Media Player or anything else has a hard time rendering it effectively which causes the video to play catch up to the audio.

Where the video is catching up to the audio is in the rendered H.264 rendered output file. Originally the audio is captured onto a zoom and is synced in PPCS5.5. My NLE's workflow appears fine, it is only when rendered out it seems to have sync issues.

It is most notable towards the end during the far-slider shots of the subject talking.

PS: Funny thing is after leaving my PC idle for an hour and now going back to the youtube page, everything seems fine, think it is a processing issue with the client PC? Had a mac mini and it kept choking.

*UPDATE: Had the video on Facebook as well and it appears to be the main culprit as Facebook chokes more so than Youtube (lots of overhead processing?). So the actual H.264 appears fine.
