Re: Customer Side Grip for NEX-FS100 - Venture?

Re: Customer Side Grip for NEX-FS100 - Venture?

Was shooting with my DSLR the other day and it made me realize how much I miss the direct controls to adjust things like Gain and Shutter without having to look where to press (i.e. I always have to feel around to hit the shutter button on the FS100).

So I was thinking if anyone is interested to fund a Venture to design a Side Hand Grip for the NEX-FS100 that utilizes the LANC protocol to directly adjust settings important to you (i.e. Gain, Shutter, Iris, White Balance...etc) all with just your right hand on the Side Grip.

I haven't worked on the schematics yet but you get the point.

What I was thinking was:
- Assignable Quad-Wheel (four dials that can directly adjust any racking feature of the NEX-FS100 through assignment)
*Ideally I would set each wheel for direct Gain, Shutter, Iris and White Balance control
*Two wheels should be placed by the index and middle finger position on the grip, other Two Wheels should be placed near thumb position of grip.
- Dedicated Zoom rocker to control native E-Mount zoom lenses (transferable to Birger's upcoming EF electronic adapter).
- Dedicated Focus rocker to control native E-Mount zoom lenses. (transferable to Birger's upcoming EF electronic adapter).
**The Zoom and Focus rockers could be located at the lower back side of the grip, forcing the Camera Operator to change grip positions when zooming and rack focusing.
- Dedicated Record/Stop Button
- Dedicated Delete Last Scene Button with On-Screen Confirmation
- Dedicated mini-wheel / push button to access menu functions
- And if possible, have a built-in RGB noise meter on the handle to indicate the level of ISO/Gain noise in the scene.

What do you guys think? I have no idea of R&D cost nor cost of actual final product.

Cool idea. I don't want 4 wheels on my hand grip tho, but exposure and gain yes. where is the LANC on the FS100? I'm too lazy to get out of my chair and look ; )

Are all those things even possible through LANC? Sony's RM1000BP does not have many of the items on the list and costs $1000 (MSRP)

Other than than the noise meter the RM1000BP does all those, but not necessarily directly. I want one that has direct rack control.

Cost should be way less than $1000 if it is a non-Sony brand product? It's "just" implementing the protocol to some kind of machine-human interface.

The current grip is rather large and could fit 4 x DSLR-like ISO wheel. The LANC is to the right of the audio monitor out jack. ;p

There is no way you will ever be able to control the zoom of an ef lens or emount lens with a zoom rocker.
