Re: Atomos Ninja vs Sound Devices PIX 220?

Re: Atomos Ninja vs Sound Devices PIX 220?

The PIX 220 is nearly twice the price of the Atomos Ninja, but does the fact that it does 3:2 pull-down for 24p make it worth it?

Anyone with experience with these two? Any recommendations? Does 4:2:2 really make colour grading that much more easier?

It's not only about 4:2:2. Our Ninja will also preserve superwhites from the FS100, so you can retain some more detail in the highlights. Plus, the rendering of motion is much better than the H.264 codec with high-detail / high-motion. You may not see that much of a difference with less critical footage.

I doubt that the image quality is different from the Sound Devices Pix, but they are famous for audio. The audio section on the Ninja is OKish, but not great. While I have not tested the Pix 220, we didn't find any difference in image quality from Ninja vs. Aja Ki Pro Mini.
