HPX250: RE: advice on new HPX250

The preset scene files on the wheel can be changed and renamed to your own liking it is not necessary to load from the card, you can save your setting to a card.

I thank all of you. I received the unit yesterday and in going through a few things in the manual it references an HPX250EN and an HPX250PJ. Is there a difference? The unit came from B&H photo.

Sincerely,
Bill

Ours are HPX250EJ purchased in London.

Interesting about the scene files. So basically then you can set up your own scene files and load from the card instead of the presets on the wheel? Please forgive my ignorance, I am still wading through the manual.

Sincerely,
Bill

This is my first Panny, I have never used scene files before so I had to read and reread till it make sense how to use them. Barry book is what made the most sense to me. I copied the scene files that came with the book (There is also a CD with the book and the 6 scene files are on the CD along with other items) and then modified the ones I liked best, then saved them to the card so I wont lose what I just made. So when I say that I don't move the wheel much anymore its because I have just a few I work with and all written to the same location on the wheel. Once you get through the manual and play with it, over and over you will get it. Thats how I did it, just played till it made sense and I could understand it. To me the book is assuming you already know how to do this, and I didn't just had to read and play.
Here is someone who shot with a AC130 and shows what he used for setting check it out

I thank everyone who gave me pointers on this. I finally sort of got it going. I still need to explore the various settings. I am looking forward to getting Barry's book.

Sincerely,
Bill

I have just received Barry's book and it is great, it has solved a few queries already. This book and Doug Jensen's Vortex manuals may be expensive but they are worth every penny. The time saved in learning leaves more for going out with confidence and getting a return on the investment. I have never managed to grasp the finer points of Panasonic/Sony "Speak" over the last 30 years of official manuals.

Is the book available in Australia? It might be worth a read after I picked up my 250 yesterday!

*I do have one question for now, I've read the manual (was fairly useless to be honest), is their a peaking feature on the camera? If so, how does one turn it on?

Pro Video Systems in Auckland is the closest distributor to Australia. Yes there's peaking, go in the menus and look for EVF DTL freq.

Barry, do I get your book via Holdan in the UK?

No free book voucher for me sadly, but I did get two free 64GB P2 cards (err, because I bought two HPX250's) :)

Have updated both cameras with the new firmware and set them up the same for now and I'd like to get some good scene files locked down next. They're going on a mirror-rig most of the time so I'll be working on all the genlocky-timecodey-stuff soon.

1. Go to SW MODE menu and change FOCUS ASSIST to IN RED.
2. Exit menu.
3. Press FOCUS ASSIST to toggle Red Focus on and off.

OT: Liam, you don't live near Cairns, do you? I'm trying to find someone with a 250 (or even 130/160) so I can get a feel for what this series is like.

Sorry mate, Melbourne! and yeah I figured it out, just need to get some good hours in with this camera! haven't got a p2 card yet which is quite annoying, having to wait until Monday to shoot!!!!

Something that is really interesting for really fast focusing with Red is to turn the EVF to black and white. When you invoke red focus, you still get the red appearing and it really lights up against the black and white viewfinder.
