Re: A7S (original) Flat Cinematic Rembrandt Picture Profile?

Re: A7S (original) Flat Cinematic Rembrandt Picture Profile?

Looking for a custom Picture Profile (for the original A7S) that will give me this type of flat but still contrasty look. Due to the detailed requirements in the shadows, I would guess that SLOG2 is not in the cards?

Everything about that shot is constructed with lighting and negative fill as opposed to a picture profile.

But once you've lit something like that you'd need to see what kind of light ratio you end up with to see if you can expose Slog2 over and retain more shadow detail which you can then take down but retain the subtle shadow details.

If you look at

http://blog.inventome.com/Blog/2015/8/a7exposure/Sony-A7s---how-to-expose---cine-or-log?

Which was based on the original A7s you can see a diagram with the distribution of code values for some of the profiles. Arrange your exposure correctly (don't blow the window) and fill accordingly (if needed at all) then even Slog will give you plenty of shadow room, more than Cine1 will for example.

The Cine profiles excel at mid tones and if you're not planning on any grading work then they offer a better starting point than log curves

I believe it is partially Picture Profile as well. I've experimented with lighting it similar to above and I noticed on my A7S it exposes the entire shadow area. So I'm experimenting with the black levels in-camera to see if it can produce the same shadow clipping as the above shot.

I think I am getting close!
