Razor blade?

Recently I acquired Vegas, but I have no experience with it. All of my experience is with FCP. Vegas intrigued me because everyone talked about how intuitive it is. So far, I am completely lost. Nothing is where I expect it to be.

But for now, I have one problem I'd like to work out. I have some clips I want to trim. More specifically, I want to trim the middle of the clip. In FCP I'd grab the razor blade, make my cuts and trash the middle. Is there anything remotely equivalent to this in Vegas? I can't figure it out.

Thanks for your time!

In Vegas, you can press the "S" key (split) to cut the track at the desired spot; or, you can open the clip in the trimmer and drag/select the area you want , then drag it to the timeline. I prefer the S key method directly in the timeline. To help select the exact frame to cut on without zooming way in to the timeline, hold down the Alt key and use the keyboard arrows to move 1 frame in either direction.
Hope this helps.

If you want to cut out a section without clicking "S" twice, create a loop region -- drag on the time rule -- around the section you want, THEN click "S" -- it will cut at both ends of the region at the same time.

Eric,

There are a ton of good resources out there, especially from www.vasst.com - one of the best to just get up and running with Vegas (albeit outdated...) is the tutorials for Vegas 3.0

http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/download/updates/vegasfamily

scroll to the bottom and download the tutorial file - this will walk you through Vegas and you'll actually create a project - great way to quickly get familiar with the toolset.

I've got both FCP / Vegas and find that for most video stuff I do, there is very little that FCP does better - I think once you grab the "backwards" thinking of Vegas compared to the other NLE layouts, you'll be pretty surprised.
