Raylight Speed Improvements

Raylight 1.04 is released!

It has 3-4X faster playback in Raylight Blue and 4X faster rendering of Raylight Previews and Raylight AVI's. It has support for European 1080-line formats (including 1080i50 and 1080-25P). Playback in Raylight Yellow is 25% faster. See dvfilm.com/raylight for details.

The dual-core processor support and P2 authoring is coming up next.

Raylight 1.04 supports HD at 60i, 50i, 60P, 50P, 30P, 25P, 24P, and DVCPRO50 PAL/NTSC and DV PAL/NTSC.

The website pages were not updated until just now.

MVB,

How is DVFilm handling updates from a user cost perspective? For instance, if Raylight were to add support through the VariCam frame rates, would that be given to existing users at no additional charge or do you see this coming in premium upgrades?

Great stuff you're doing, thanks for your work.

We have never charged for downloaded updates or upgrades, and don't plan to do so anytime soon.

The main obstacle to supporting the Varicam mode (60P with redundant frames) is that no one has sent me any sample footage. Contact sales@dvfilm.com if you want to do that. I believe however (but I might be wrong) that if you get the camera to not record the redundant frames (as with 24P) then it is already supported.

By the way, thanks for RayLight! We're just playing with the demo version ntil we get the workflow mastered.
Faster is great. We were a little reluctant due to the speed issue.

How do you know which version you have? I just downloaded Raylight yesterday, so I assume I have the latest version.

Great, time to put this Athlon X2 to use.

You right-click the control panel title bar and select About DVFilm Raylight. Version 1.04 also shows the version number in the configuration dialog. Lastly RayMaker also displays the version number when it runs.

Wow, huge improvements. I initially tried it out with Windows Media Player and got no speed boost. But after trying it out in Premiere Pro 2, I can almost run the clips at the highest setting perfectly (there are a few framedrops, but definetly much better). Also, editing on Medium quality is now a breeze and silky-smooth. I never tried the old codec in AE, but I can say that this new release works pretty swiftly in there too.

I am using an Athlon 64 X2 4200, Quadro FX 3400, 2GB DDR400 ram, WD Raptor HDD.

I can hardly wait for Raylight to support dual core chips.
