Raylight 2.02 Released -- Includes Plugin for Vegas!

when i drop the File into Vegas t keeps crashing vegas. it saysd an Exception has occured and it kills, the Program........ :(

i wonder why?

I had that problem with the last version of Raylight. But now I have 2.0.2-9 and it works like a charm. But I am on Vegas 6, not 7. The guy who makes raylight is on this board...forget his name but he should pop in with something soon. In the meantime, I would role back to what you know works.

yea i gotta try that. but its weird and incosistent. sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt.

His userid is "mvb".

I'm also using Vegas 6 and haven't had a crash. Be sure to update to the most recent version of Raylight, I think it's on 202-9 now.

It's been solid for months but I have gotten some strange reports
lately, of crashes on MXF files with Vegas 7.0d and even the Raylight
installer hanging up. We're looking into it.

Go to dvfilm.com and click on Support for fastest service.

We've reproduced the error here, which is good :D But until there's a permanent fix, if you use Vegas 7.0d, revert back to Raylight 202-8 or earlier version,
if you have it. Users of Premiere or Vegas 6 are unaffected.

It's fixed now in release folder 202-10, so get it at dvfilm.com/update

This version also keeps a log of the installation process in case any one has trouble with that., email the Log.txt file to support.

Raylight/Film Maker and Canon XH-A1 24F, 30F, 60i

Raylight/Film Maker and Canon XH-A1 24F, 30F, 60i

Marcus,

Quick question:

I have Canon's XH-A1 and would like to know if it is possible to use Raylight as an Intermediate Codec using the camera native 24F, 30F and/or 60i by capturing directly in Vegas 7 or Premiere Pro 2 as 1440x1080 24F. Also, would like to know since I will be doing some green screen work in the near future, how does it handle the color space (Chroma) - IE is it 4:2:2 like Cineform or 4:2:0 like native Canon HDV.

I am between deciding to go with either Cineform Neo HDV or Raylight, and would also like to know aprox. how many streams at the lowest level of proxy quality can I load with simple cuts on an Opteron Dual Core 2.6 with 1 Gig of ram (possibly upgrading to 2 later) 120gb system drive and 160gb dedicated video scratch drive. Whew! Sorry for asking so much.

Thanks so much in advance.

Tony S.

Yes, you use DVFilm Maker (included with Raylight) to convert the mpeg stream files to raylight. We have a web tutorial on it here http://dvfilm.com/raylight/raylightTutorial7.htm

Raylight is DVCPROHD so it's 4:2:2. Also in the Blue mode it smooths the color so is ideal for keying.

We have a web page showing typical performance for Raylight. See
http://dvfilm.com/raylight/raylightSpeed.htm

Best thing though is to play with the demo.

FROM JAN. 4, 2007 - BARRY GREEN
"They have indeed, and it is amazing. It makes Vegas work exactly like you'd want, for HVX usage.

It's not still 100% "there" yet; you can't do 1080/24pA pulldown removal on the fly yet, but for 720pN it's just about perfect. Danged if Marcus hasn't pulled a massive rabbit out of his hat on this one. Very, very, very slick." -

Does the plug-in from RAYLIGHT require anything more than the Vegas Pro 8 recommended hardware for a PC to edit the .MXF files? I'm just about to purchase a HVX200 and editing the Vegas Pro 8 software (already bought both bootcamps, really good stuff), and I'd like to not go 5 miles down the wrong road. Help please.... And please, no offense meant but, I've already read all the arguments for MAC and I am as recalcitrant to use my PC about as much as a MAC user is towards using a PC....lol... thanks!

No, Raylight requires nothing beyond normal Vegas requirements. If your system can run Vegas, it can run Raylight.

And what you quoted from was an older version; Raylight 3 now does support 1080/24pA pulldown removal.

Thanks, Barry. Really enjoying the hyper-data download of a presentation in the BOOTCAMP DVD's. Just one last question before I actually buy a HVX200 from a authorized dealer;
Does the ability to shoot in 720p/24pN always been a feature of the HVX200 or is there a product serial number that starts this as an upgrade for the camera. The other would be does the same apply to the P2 CARD firmware for the 16Gig card? When will the 32Gig come out and what will be the cost. Thanks again....

Yup, its allways been there!

That I´m not sure about BUT I think it highly unlikely that Panny is shipping HVX´s NOW that require the user to upgrade the firmware to enable 16gb P2 card use. Then again the dealer might be selling older stock!

32gb P2 cards have been announced for November this year.... with Panny´s track record on P2 realeases make that November `08

Indy... In El Salvador travelling to Peru from Mexico with his HVX!

Sorry to jump in here but when is the next version of Raylight due for the Mac? Mention was originally made of an August release.... I´m hoping that P2cms hasn´t killed it off

There was talk about some really cool features that I´d really like to get my hands on!
Cheers

Cameras manufactured in May 2007 or later came from the factory already able to use 16GB cards. Any manufactured prior to that date would need to be upgraded. You can check if yours needs it or not; go to the MCR menu and check for "system software" and if it's version 4.05 or 4.06, you don't need an update.

The press release for 32GB cards said they'd become available in November at an MSRP of $1650 each.

Thanks I'm on my way now to buy the DVX200 W/ confidence. Any special knowledge about using the Sony Vegas Pro 8?

Thanks for your help, and yes, it's a HVX200 not a DVX200. I'm now the proud owner of a 'HVX200' and we begin production on several projects this month.
thanks again....
