FS5: Raw to Prores from FS5 in editing

Very basic question. I've been shooting raw to prores for some time at 24p. Today I shot some stuff in slow motion for the first time. When I import from the inferno into premiere, it is running full speed in my timeline. 2 questions. Is there any way that it can simply output the slow motion file like the FS5 internal does where it's already slowed down in my timeline? If not, my second question is what % do I slow it down if I'm putting 120fps into a 24p timeline? 20%? Thanks.

Yes, 20%. Sounds like the FS5 internal is doing true over-cranking, I.e. conforming upon record, whereas the Inferno is not.

How are you liking ProRes Raw out of the FS5? I’m working with a D850 and Inferno right now and am considering an FS5 for form factor and output to ProRes Raw.

Well it’s actually raw to prores that I’m shooting for now. I don’t edit in fcp so I have no way of working with the prores raw files until Premiere implements it. But the regular stuff looks great. Overall I’m impressed by it.

Ah, I see. I’m also waiting for Premiere support of ProRes RAW. How does RAW to ProRes work? Is the FS5 outputting a linear-only RAW like the FS7? Is FS5 RAW output via SDI, HDMI or both?

Correct. 12 bit linear via SDI and converted to prores via the Inferno. HDMI won’t pass thru raw (not sure what will happen in the future since the Ninja V is hdmi only).

Newsguy,

What you want to do is to “interpret” the footage in Premiere. That’s Adobe’s term for conforming.

It’s super easy and you can batch interpret your files:

1. Look at the clip’s frame rate in your project. Is it showing 120 fps?

2. Right-click on the clip and choose “Interpret...” (I’m not at my edit computer, so going off memory, but should be roughly correct.)

3. In the new window, enter the frame rate you want it to play at (usually the same as your timeline, e.g., 23.976, 24, 30, etc.).

Now, when you play the clip in your source monitor, it will play in slo-mo.
