RAW movies - Is this possible?

Is it technically possible to come up with RAW movies? What are the constraints being faced by manufacturers like Canon from coming up with RAW movie format? Thanks.

my guess is that, if they started working in a camera with this goal in mind, it would be feasible; but that means around 3 years of development, so it doesn't look likely for the eagerly awaited next generation; for the one after that, I'd expect at least one manufacturer to get everything right

Arri, Red, Phantom and Silicon Imaging all support their own raw recording formats. but none of those cameras use the type of CMOS chips built into DSLR type cameras. They are using sensors that are purpose built to be used at their full resolution at 24fps or higher, while DSLRs cannot do this without downsampling to a lower resolution.

If Canon or Nikon wanted to make a camera that could record raw movies or image sequences at 24fps, they'd have to build it from the ground up with different sensors then the ones that they currently use.

What type of sensor technology is Arri or Red using?

They're using a similar size of CMOS sensor, but the difference is that the DSLR sensors are designed primarily to create still photographs with high megapixel counts. There's probably not enough bandwidth available to carry raw 24fps video, and the DSLR's aren't designed to deal with the heat generated by the sensor either.
