Raw - ML Raw

I've been out of the loop for awhile. I received my 5d mk3 but still haven't shot anything worth sharing with this group. I'm sure these questions has been killed by the wolves many time over but what the heck one more time can't really hurt can it?

1. Canon has release their update on RAW I tried downloading it onto my camera but I may be doing something wrong or just being stupid or maybe I'm just both?
2. Raw.... I think I read on here that 4gb = 48 seconds? If I'm shooting Raw I really need to up the gb on my sd card?
3. Shooting Raw is it best to go with SD vs CF or does it really not matter as long as your card is up to speed?
4. I looked at ML but what I saw says they are still working out the bugs. Does ML have its own Raw or do I download Canon Raw and then download ML? Can someone give me the right link to their download page?
5. I went onto youtube to see about downloading ML and the video that show you how are pretty much useless.
6. When I have ML on my card when I remove the card then my 5d is back to it norm?
7. I'm editing on Vegas Pro 11 will that be an issue working with Raw?

Those of you that can give me that input THANKS or should I say MANY THANKS since I'm sure some of you feel like a broken record.

1. Their update on raw? If you mean the CR update then that is for your computer, not the camera.

2. Raw is not something that Canon or the 5D supports by default. You HAVE TO use Magic Lantern to record raw from the 5D. If you don't you'd only be able to photograph raw images like always. In regards to the cards.... you can't use SD cards. The SD card slot Canon put in the 5D is a joke, and will never achieve the speed needed for recording raw. To be specific, only a few CF cards have been proven to be able to shoot full 1080p in 25 fps and amongst those are: Komputerbay 64gb UDMA 7 1000x CF cards, Toshiba 1066x CF cards. One 64gb CF card provides 17 min. of raw footage. So yeah..... you need a lot. Don't go buy the 128gb, for some reason they write slower than the 64gb.

3. Answered in 2... only CF cards will be fast enough for raw.

4. There's no stable build of ML yet, but that being said, their current builds do not load into the camera, so nothing is damaged. You can check the Nightly Builds section on the ML forum. AGAIN... Canon has NOTHING to do with the raw development, sadly for them... quite embarresing actually. But they probably don't care since their sales will go up and up.

5. Check out EOSHD.com... he's pretty good at explaining things.

6. Yes.

7. Well.... here's where the fun begins. At the moment (last I checked) the only way to work natively with the 5D raw files is by installing the Ginger HDR plugin in Premiere and AE. If you don't do that or have those, then you have to work with the still VERY extensive and complicated workflow of transcoding the raw files into single frames then into movie clips that are editor friendly. It's not exactly a friendly workflow yet. Oh... I hope you are stocked up on external storage, since you'll need a lot.
