raw hvx MFX for testing

Hello,

Interested in purchasing an HVX (even more interested in getting my boss to buy one). Wondering if there are any generous souls who would be willing to upload any raw MFX files for me to test in Avid Xpress and Media Composer. A couple short clips (10-30 seconds) at various resolutions and/or framerates would great.

I know several people on this forum have had a similar interest in testing such clips and that there used to be some available, but it seems all the links are dead. I would be happy to host some clips for other perspective buyers to test, if someone would be kind enough to perform the initial upload. I have a pretty fast server that I could dedicate some significant space to do this with if anyone would be interested in helping. Thanks. :)

Private message me a link to upload and when i get home i can upload some short clips. you want the full .xml files from the P2 card? or just the .mov raw dvcprohd files? Im assuming the .mov files. Same codec, just a wrapper that your NLE will be able to edit

If you have it, I guess what I am looking for is whatever comes directly off the P2 card, since Avid supposedly supports the native MXF files. I believe, on the P2 card, the actual MXF files are stored under /contents/video and /contents/audio

Depending on what forum or thread you read, it looks like the .xml or txt pointer files may or may not be necessary. According to the latest posts on DVXuser (http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=57544) it would appear that people's luck varies from system to system, based on anything down to how often you turned your camera off while using the same P2 card! Perhaps FCP's handling of MXF by adding a QT wrapper is better after all.

Anyway, that is part of what I'm hoping to find out. So if you can supply raw P2 data, it will be great to troubleshoot what is going on with Avid's MXF import. If you only have already wrapped .MOV files, at least I can finally know what it feels like to drop some sort of HD into a timeline! And hopefully test out Xpress 5.5's new full res output over DVI feature.

Cynic, thanks so much. I'll send you a PM momentarily.

Anyone else who has files to upload...the more the merrier!

ok. what ill do is shoot 2 or 3 short clips, then ill make a zip of the entire P2 disc contents. So youll have everything that is on the P2 card as if it were a mounted disc, but in a folder instead. look foward to your PM :)

wow, fantastic. Thanks so much.

Just out of curiosity, how have you faired with FCP's Res/Framerate support of the HVX? Have you experimented with most of the fps options? Avid has us quite limited with what it will support natively (that is to say, many formats require keeping the original pulldown in the video).

Well i do everything in either 1080i60i, which is nativley supported, or if im doing a short movie, i use 720p24pn and the timeline is always 24 no matter what framerate i choose. Ive done 60 down to 2 and all in between and have been working flawlessly since weve got the HVX200.

Id have to say FCP handles everything perfectly, except the 1080 24p, which i cant quite figure out :(

bpro04, you realize that even half a minute can yield files in the neighborhood of 1/2 GB, right?

I realize that. I'm guessing thats why finding active links to MXF media has been so difficult. I certainly do not mind letting people download 1gb files from my server, if someone has the patience to upload them.

I am looking for test media as well. I have heard that there were test files on the HVX demo DVD, but I cannot find a link to order it.

Can you let us know when the files are up and where to find them? Many thanx.

I will be posting a link as soon as I have a few files to share. Check back in a day or two.

Anyone else have raw MXF files they would be willing to upload to my server?

Just to keep the chat going while im at the office for when i get home. what do you want me to shoot. Your options are:

My kitchen.

Outside around twilight.

My cats (and of the cats; the black one, or the calico?)

A penny.

A peice of cat food.

A Perfect Dark 360 standee display.

My broken toilet.

Choose wisley!

I'm a big fan of cats as well as the outdoors. Unless you've trained your cat to use that toilet, I think we'll stay away from it!

Cats would be great for judging motion I suppose, while outdoors is always nice for detail and seeing low-light handling...so whatever you feel like shooting.

my cats are no good for motion they dont move an inch all day (unless of course you arent looking, then they will take it upon themselves to go everywhere they arent supposed to go and knock stuff over for fun) , so ill put the new tripod to work with some pan shots outside. :)
