very interested in the KineRAW cameras, how far off is a gh1 raw hack and what is needed to make that happen?

I'm starting this thread for Dan Hudgins and his contacts to bring some specific interest to this possible project. It'll be updated as we go along. But, make sure to read the bold yellow print, and try not to clutter the thread. It's for real data, progress, etc.

THERE IS NOT A HARDWARE HACK JUST YET!

If you're curious as to what the hardware hack would be like, try running a google search for ANDROMEDA DVX100.

That should give you an idea of where this could be headed.

Thanks

First sorry for my bad english...
gh1 and gh2 use pixel binning in video mode so 12mp gh1 become 3mp and 14mp gh2 become 3.5mp.
Raw video data from sensor go higher than standar full hd. Its probably same for the 60p mode because af100 goes full hd 60p.
Does OptimaCine PCIe interface have enough hardware power?

yes pixel bining is still raw .
problem is 24fps @ 3.5 mp is about 135 MB/s.
but hardvare limit may not be pcie intreface , perhaps is sensor fps limit.
i think that OptimaCine and kineraw S8p use same sensor .
Probably http://tinyurl.com/6tapn3z
at full resolution 2592x1940 it goes 14fps then 2592x1102 is about 25fps
im not sure that will need raid ssd.
modern ssd can go up to 400MB/s.

Sounds like this has the potential to be a nice project. The Andromeda DVX100 thing seems to have vanished, as all the web links are dead. Still if somebody could produce a board and offer the modding service, it would be amazing to get true 4:4:4 off of the GH cameras. Please keep me posted.

At some point in time (several years ago) I remember reading that the Andromeda DVX100 "hack" was quietly bought by studios, who did not want uncompressed HD competition on the cheap at that time. Hopefully this project could proceed and not get bought the moment it is ready.

Please tell me this possible as Hyperdeck Shuttle 2 is capable of recording RAW and compressed files at USD 350.00 only!!

his name is Vitaliy, just like your name is Dan - not dune or dunny - take the time to get it right

I don't think Dan meant to wrongly addressed Vitaliy. It must be the auto-correct function of his email system. Anyway Dan, that could be a reason why Vitaliy didn't respond so my suggestion is please try to email him again with the right name.

I'm trying to understand how this would go about. So this PCIe device would just patch into the camera sensors data bus, and when you decided to capture raw, you would just start recording on your computer, right?

If it really is as simple as this, and I know it isn't that simple, but it makes me wonder about other cameras. Specifically, Sigma cameras that use Foveon X3 sensors. I wonder what video would look like coming out of one of those cameras. The SD1 has 46 Megapixels (15.3MP x 3) of data, so it might require 3 PCIe cards. But it could be very impressive, possibly even true 4:4:4.

Interesting to say the least.
