GH2 RAW FILES disaster

Friends,

I am aware that most of you just see the GH2 as a video cam with potential, but there are poor souls like me and my colleagues that happen to use it for a living.

The lack of the RAW codec is just unbeliveable for a 1000 bucks camera!
Here at our own little operation, we all bought into the GH2 and carefully planned and ordered the lenses etc.
We sold our most recent kit to finance the purchase and now we are stuck!
Please someone help- is there really no way to work with the GH2 RAW files other than using "SILKYPIX"?
We are, or we used to be 4 sharp photo freelancers and now I am back to using my old 400D for work!
I have rode it out for 2 weeks now, but the pressure is up and in a few days I need to go to Portugal for a job and don't know what to do!
Has anyone found a way to open the Lumix files in Lightroom or Photoshop?
Please share, you would save the livelihood of 4 really cute families in Barcelona!
I know it's our own fault to just "ASSUME" that a 1K$ body would come with a RAW conversion, and I admit we were hasty. Having said that, any real help would be greatly appreciated.
We now have 12 projects to convert and 4 coming up in 2 weeks. I know, God help us....

I have never had any bad experiences with Panasonic so I made a decision for all of us, more or less...
Now it looks as though many people will suffer because users take their brand more seriously than Panasonic themselves.
Once again, anyone that can help or offer advice, please do so.
Please do not send messages like "buy a D5"- we sold all our intermediate equipment, we only have the really low backup left - a 400D, a 450D and almost no lenses for them!
Thanks!

What version of photoshop are you using? Gh2 shoots RAW. Currently there are some issues with RAW on the Gh2 in Aperture and iPhoto but in Lightroom and Photoshop it should work fine. Maybe just run free updates? Photoshop etc should be compatible.

I am using the CS5.
I tried the codec from the Pannys Japanese site on both my own workstation and other 32bit computers-no dice.
And GH2 shoots RAW for sure... it's just that it can't be edited with anything.
Even Picasa and such convert it with errors and white balance is all the way in the blues and a part of the image is pixelated!

Just to avoid the our-side fault;
3 desktops with win7 64bit and CS5
5 laptops with win7 32bit, 64bit and Mac OSX
everything else works like a charm, even the CUDA acceleration in Premiere etc....
All other RAW formats work; we tried Canon, Nikon, Fujfilm and Premiere even imports the RED fake RAW video codec, so WTF?
We really, really can NOT work with "SILKYPIX" software!
Someone please help!

To open and edit a RAW file in Adobe Bridge, select the photo and press ctrl + r (in Windows). To open and edit a RAW file from Bridge into Photoshop, I believe all you have to do is double click it. If you would like to convert from RAW to .DNG, download the free Adobe DNG Converter. Please, don't blame the camera.

I use Adobe Lightroom and had to buy an upgrade to the latest version (3.3) so I could work with the GH2 RAW files. It works great now.

Hallvala, a big thank you!

I don't know what's going on but only 2 of the 5 computers here installed the update.
In any case, I am looking at the GH2 sensor output in Photoshop as any other file!

It's 1:22AM here but when I called up 2 of my colleagues even their spouses picked up with:"is it working"?

It will be a long night here, and again I thank you.
I've processed 5 images so far (not my best work) and it's exactely what we have been hoping for - compared to 5D - offcourse the 2xcrop, but less noise, much higher detail, and I am sorry to say, looks like less dynamic range, but hey for half the sensor size....

Thanks, we had to do that too, although it only worked on 2 computers out of 5... maybe a different licence...
The ideal for us (a small production) would be to have identical accounts.
We now have an array with content on a local server, but the idea is to take your SSD like you would an ID, stick it in and start (any) workstation.
It's awesome, only issues so far are some plugins and operators assigning wrong scratch disks.

Sorry everyone for the urgency of the original post, but for some background- Once again, shame on Panasonic for not providing the most basic of tools with such an expensive camera!
The real upheaval, as everyone knows, started with the GH1, and when the GH2 came out with a REAL codec (2 B frames progressive) even if it was only 1 choice, we jumped at it.
At the same time, Zeiss announced it will release all of their mini primes in micro 4/3 mount!
All those lenses are the same size so if you have a follow focus, you could change it in minutes!
So why not get a case full of them?
It's 23K$ for a pack of 5 and we put in all for quality and hoping to get the result to everyone, planning to share and hopefully add as we go!
So, yo can imagine how grateful we are for CUDA, for people like Hallvala, and this whole community.
If it was't for YOU, we would still be editing HDV with an hammer!

Hello,
the camera is amazing- the sensor, the super powerfull chip, is just a step ahead of anything else.
Even the "stock lens" is too good to be called that.
We truly are blessed with the GH2 right now
As someone really smart already said:
GH2- THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING!

Anyway, may this be a lesson to you all if you are a small producer- you are doing fine, climbing up there slowly and ordering a case of Zeiss lenses for your super enthousiasthic team...
Trouble never comes alone.... can't convert RAWs, you are suddenly an early adopter (2nd generation) etc.
We had a PARK, an exhibition of Canon lenses.....
It takes a huge leap of faith to just accept that panasonic lenses will make up for it...
The 2 fast pancakes are lovely 20mm@ f/1.7 and 14mm @f/2,Also, the Leica 45mm prime macro is delicious, at it's f2,8 range.
So we ordered Zeiss at almost same lenghts:
21mm f/2.1
50mm f/1.4
85mm f/2.8 non macro
in an EF mount (add insult to injury)
The m4/3 mount can be removed
any mout can be removed, but you have to calibrate the lens(es)
Zeiss provides a "chart" for this but hey???
