i just bought a dvx today and when i tilt the camera foreward and back i hear a strange rattle-like sound. actually, it sounds more like something is slightly loose and is shifting. however, it goes away when i turn the camera on and everything seems fine. could this be the nd filter moving around? is this standard? should i return it?

help!

OH MAN! keep your camera off... you could damage your DVX!!

Panasonic is in so much trouble for this... Their new dvx models were all manufactured with a defect.... you're going to have to send it back and get a new one. Sorry to tell you this, man.

You're going to need to get a signature from someone at the store you bought it from to verify that you did in fact purchase this dvx, and then you'll have to ship it off to panasonic customer service. It takes about 6 weeks to get it fully inspected and replaced...

Oh man. The dreaded DVX death-klunk.

You can TRY returning it, but I doubt they'll take it back. They'll say something like, "Oh, it's supposed to do that", or "Didn't you read the manual", or something equally ridiculous.

Be extremely suspicious if they tell you to look at Question 4 on page 67 of your manual -- they're obviously just screwing around with you. Now would be a good time to start throwing punches.

There's a manual?

thanks

thanks

guess i should've searched the forum's first. thanks guys. to bad it was too late when i figured out you guys were joking--i had already stuffed the tape slot with peanutbutter to hold all the loose parts in place...oh well

I thought the same thing the other day when I first opened the box from B&H I heard the slide/clunk in the camera and I thought OH NO! until I powered it up and everything was fine.

I like this trick:

"Hey can you hold my camera for a bit. Be careful, it's very fragile."

"Sure."

I go off and do something for a few minutes then come back.

"I'll take that now."

"Here."

I discreetly turn it off.

"What the... What did you do!"

"What? I didn't do anything."

I rock camera back and forth, it makes klunking noise.

"It's broken! Did you drop it!"

"No! It was fine!"

"Oh my God! This cost me $4000! How am I going to get this replaced!"

"I don't know man. I mean, I didn't..."

"We have to film now! Oh my God! What am I going to do! Everything is ruined!"

And so on until they start crying.

Ahhh. Great fun.

The peanut butter in the mechanism is not a matter of if, but when it is going to happen. I have seen today in service an AE700 projector which has been "cleaned" wirh CRC (ya know the oil in a can stuff). LCD panels, prism block was soaking with the stuff. Interesting colours, though...

Back in the first years of the Internet (when geeks ruled the world), there was a fine acronym that has since fallen into misuse. Perhaps it is time to resurrect it.

RTFM.

Read The Fine Manual.
