Nice try for a first video. But there's so many things that really bug me. It seems like you're forcing yourself to fall intro the stereotypical hip hop lifestyle of videos. The one thing that bugs me the most is the fact that the first half of the video your letterboxing was white and black, then you did the hype williams (with the clips instead of the black matte). That's just my opinion i just think its boring. You're on your way though, keep making tons and tons of videos, believe me, you learn from every project you do, just do something that hasn't been done with hip hop. Although unfortunately the way the industry is, they want crap music and crap videos.

This video was definitely a major improvement from some of your previous work I've seen, but like Noah said, i didn't really like the changing letterboxing. Its creative, but I just didn't like it. The edit was pretty well done though, especially at the start. Man it must have taken ages

nice video...although, nothing really jumps out at me..its the same as every hiphop video ever made. It would be real nice to see someone try something different for a rap video once and while. I think i speak for alot of people when I say we are tired of seeing some guy walk around in front of cars throwing money at us, while like 400 of his buddies are sitting on the hoods of their cars looking pissed.

But don't get me wrong, this was a good video, put together nicely and I am sure the artist was happy with it. But the format and "story" are just...well boring,
you have the talent, I would take a step out and try something new with this genre, this is what hip hop needs!!!

Agree 100%. Just keep shooting!

As badly as I wanted to, the artist would NOT let me NOT shoot anything un-stereotypical. No matter WHAT I said, he would cry and had a posse of boys that would step in and say 'he's going to do it his way', cause he's so 'hood'. And the reason

WHITE WOOD!!

HA, I remember when I was at a church trip the hotel we had had wifi so we were on youtube and we thought you had just made a video with a dvx because you stole it or something. haha I remember you thought the dvx new the distance between the lens hood and the lens. And you didn't know what the heck you were doing.

it looked like a cheap version of every rap video ever made. sorry, i just cant stand watching videos of people rapping with black or white behind them, then they relocate to being in front of cars.

It's a viscious cycle. I can see where this kids coming from in relation to the artist, then again i havent seen anything that creative from Whitewood at all. I dealt with a reggaeton artist a couple years ago, but it needed to stick to a certain formula. I've grown up in the music business since i was born, so i completely understand the business side of music. Although hip hop is completely down the drain (especially with the recent hip hop guys thinking they are ROCKSTARS now). Labels these days really dont want to take any sort of chance anymore, that's why we have crap music like fall out boy and such. This goes along with hip hop videos, only artists that has established themselves enough to garantee record sales, then they have some creative freedom (visually). We're talking about Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, Common etc. So i can understand why an unsigned artist would want a video he sees on MTV or BET, because thats all the label really knows. But again Whitewood, i havent seen anything creativly different from you so...

The fact is you are shooting minidv format so don't ever expect to make minidv look like 35mm arriflex. You have a good rhythem to your cuts... understand the limitations of your camera and make the video fit the look. write around your resources. if the guys in the video don't really live a million dollar lifestyle don't try to portray that. keep it street. isn't that what hip-hop is supose to be about. excuse my brutal honesty in regards to your production but if you apply your knowledge in the right areas, in no time you can be a successful music video director.

I thought the video itself was more professional than the rap/rapper. He sounds like a little kid, and the rap was straight out of the dictionary. Sure there was some cliches like mentioned in previous posts and I wasn't crazy about the letterboxing either (though at times I thought it was cool), but the editing was great and the "size" of the production made it feel like the "reel deal." Nice.

L, wow. But the focus can tell the diff between the lense and the lense hood. And that video is soo old and embarrassing that I deleted it with about 15 other old short films I did in college.

What do you mean by the "size"?

So yeah I check out the vid watched it a few times and read what the people had to say.

I think the video was dope like you said you really were not able to control content which I can understand. So I did thing you did a very good job of giving them what they wanted did they like the video?

I the editing was good too. The only thing about it that kinda bothered me was that stuff you were doing with the left over space in the widescreen. Like its dope that you can do all that like thats really nice. But it just seemed a little to much with it constantly switching with no real type of flow. Like it can be done where like it might have been better two show other shots at the bottom from the same location that are stationary.

Like when he is outside the border is of the cars not moving and its like a pan shot. I dont know. It just felt like you know how to cut good but you were letting it all out at once instead of just letting your good shot work for you.

HEY DO YOU KNOW NANO 2 HYPE AT ALL HE IS A REALLY DOPE DJ FROM THE D SPINS HIP HOP AND BOOTY AND MAYBE LIKE FUNKY TEK

Good job. I would be down to check out more of your music videos and see what there like
