Rap Promo - Nothen to Lose

Hello all, I recently did a little promo video for a friend of mines VinCity. He has a mixtape coming out so he wanted me to do a promo for a song on it. I never did anything like this before, but it was good practice and experience. Shot on a HV20. Feedback appreciated greatly.

1) that the first step of his we see is on beat, and the next one a few seconds later was not (maybe just me being anal), 2) contrast seemed a bit much, in one of the first shots there is almost no detail shown on the 3/4 of his face that is facing us, even a little fill would have worked wonders, 3) the computer screen at :28 is a little smudged and very noticeable in the light (this isn't terribly important, just something that caught my attention), 4) did not like the couple shots of them playing video games, it seemed out of place to me, I'd rather only see him hard at work, 5) good variety of shots for the most part but I wanted to see some more wide ones, I really like the one where he steps up to the mic around :50 though, and the beginning was done really well to get attention, 6) this is a solid promo, edited and shot well with only a few issues, keep up the good work

cheers,
Adam

Thanks for the feedback! I agree on all of the things you've said. I have to not trust what I see on my little lcd because it can be very deceiving -.-; I tend to run into some issues with faces not being lit. The video game part was supposed to show the laid back kind of vibe while working and stuff, but I could see how it could be out of place to people. Thanks definitely for watching and leaving feedback, I will work on any mistakes.

no problemo, it's tough to trust a lot of cameras LCDs, external monitors are awesome when space/money/time allow for use of one. and mistakes = learning experiences, getting out there and shooting, which you have done (and judging by your vimeo page, have been doing - there is some good work on there), is the best way to learn. potential and ideas are just that, potential and ideas. keep shooting and learning from what you do wrong (you should always be your toughest critic) and you'll go far :)

Thanks for the kind words very appreciated. I always try to get out and shoot something when I get the chance and I definitely try and be my toughest critic; it cannot be repeated enough to me. Film making is a fun experience and learning is one of the best parts. I have my first music video coming up soon (same artist), so I will try and learn as much as I can from an experience like that, I just hope I don't botch it haha. Thanks again for taking the time, I like hard hitting criticism.
