Random story from this weekend's film set

So I recently took a job on a small independent short feature production shooting here in LA. I provided the camera package and currently serve as DIT on set. I've never worked with such a friendly crew, and things are going well.

The other night while I was packing up the camera after shooting at a location in Hollywood, someone walks up and is standing over my pelican cases in the kitchen doorway. I look up to see if it is the director or DP needing to get through. Turns out it was James Cromwell. He was just looking around set, and asked me about what cameras we were using. I talked a little about the HVX's and whatnot. He seemed very interested and thought they were cool. (The cameras were pretty decked out in follow focus, mattebox, marshal monitor, etc, so it looked pretty professional for a small camera.)

I wasn't star struck or anything, (I never get star struck... ok only with famous DP's :) ) but perhaps more taken back at the randomness of the whole situation. Turns out, I think he was friends with the homeowner and just stopped over. Really nice guy who was pretty interested in the HVX's and the details of the production.

Just thought I'd tell someone who cares. Just a strange set story I have from recent work.

keep that cromwell/dvxuser connection going! i just read he was in a bicycle accident. hope he's okay.

Oh wow.

I'm glad he will be ok. He is one of the finest actors out there.

In light humor, he must have been daydreaming about how flippin' cool those HVXs were. :)
