Random clips from 4 of my short films...

Becuase I'm bored and feel it's about time I posted a video on this site, I post this:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=INJ3_F030xw

I know, youtube sucks for image quality...and it did indeed lower the quality greatly. But it's all I have online as of now. This was originally made for me and my friends in the movies to put on our facebook (worst site I know. haha) pages....so it's loaded with inside-joke editing and I only selected clips that meant something to us....some arn't even the best clips, infact some are the worst and thats why they were chosen because they are funny to me and my friends.

anyway...this is a video of random clips / all out of order from the movie's they were from. So please, don't judge the story of each
(example in the fourth film the guy says "I don't wanna play" and it cuts to me saying "hey! no!" ....my line was from a completely different part of the movie.. I'm actually responding to him calling me insane near the start of the film.)

These are the first movies of any kind I and my friends(who acted and helped produce/build sets) made. We made these four films starting in late may then we finished the last one mid september. The actual running times are all under 20 mins, the longest being "Lives after Death" which is 19:42. The shortest is "True Love, Spaghetti and Wine" which is a monologue for my friend that we did on his birthday, it's 6:20. The first film is 15:07 and the fourth ("green" looking one) is 11 mins.

Thats enough info for now, I'll answer any questions if there are any.

....boy, looking at my lengthly introduction I see I really am bored. Sorry.
and sorry again for the youtube quality, but it's all I have.

EDIT >>>> forgot to mention the important stuff - All shot using DVX100b plain/no adapter of anykind. Color corrected and such all in Final Cut Pro(5.1) and all shot with (not counting dvx's price) about 200 or less dollars each. We just bough 4 home dept worklights and used some (3) trouble lights I had (well..my dad had). And a microphone that my dad uses for his music (he's plays w/a band). recorded straight into the camera.

Here's screencaps for those that hate youtube.

...yeah, grain/nosie in this one ...it's lit with only 2, 75 watt trouble lights, that's why(well..most of the reason. The second being I ain't no Roger Deakins.)

These next two were done using white balance on a red sweater. And yes, the images are larger...I'm too lazy to
change size in photoshop right now.

I REALLY like the DP work on the last short. And the guy in the leather jacket looked a bit like Edward Norton and he seemed to be a pretty decent actor. I was impressed. What did you do differently with that one as opposed to the others?

The guy in the leather is me. I jumped into the roll when the actor with the role abandoned us on shooting day (he got called into "work". bah! worst.) so I jumped in since it was costing us nothing and filmed in my friends(the asian guy) basement. I figure if it sucked, I'd just reshoot later.

What was different on that one was white balance on a red shirt instead of white or gray card. And I put a 2.35 matte on it in FCP since there was some ugly light flairs at the top of 90% of the shots...the matt covered them and made it look very cinematic.
The DP was a friend of mine who never did anything to do with a camera or movies before...I setup the shot/lighting and stuff then told him where to move (or put it on a tripod most of the time).

Edit -- also I used masterped around -5 for every film except that one I went right to -11.

white balance on red sweater (cherry-ish red)

and here was my lighting setup .... using 3 100watt home depot trouble lights and we flagged/made "barndoor" type things out of cardbord so the light didn't hit the
background too much so the people would stick out better.

Ugly, I know. The blue is the "light"
