Ramping The Camera?

In movies such as the Colour of the Truth and Ichi The Killer, there are actions where the action in the scene is slowing and then quickly speeds up. Does anyone know what that is called? Is this called Ramping the Camera?

For example in the "Colour of the Truth" when 7up and Wai are on running away on the rooftops, then they sudenly stop and Huang quickly jumps by them.. in that sequnece where Huang jumps in is sped up. Also other examples from the movie are some of the killings in the movie. This also happens alot in Ichi the Killer especially at the beginning. Not sure if anyone has seen them.

When shot in film , it is basically adjusting the film speed by doing the whole shot in slow motion and then speeding it up in post? Not sure I think so... but if I'm going to be shooting with the DVX, I guess this is something that is done in post, for example with Final Cut Pro, or is there a funtion to adjust in the dvx if I want to shoot a scene sped up.

Re: Ramping The Camera?

See the post on doing slow motion, you will get your answer there. You cannot "ramp" the dvx because it has specific settings for frame rates, ie 24p, 30p. 60i. THere are no frame rates that can be chosen inbetween those so your conversion from 60i-24p will not be smooth, plus I don't think it is reccomended switching scene files while recording. You can easily do this is post using programs like after effets, and even vegas has some limited time remaping/ramping. Not sure abuot FCP but I'm sure it has it's share of features as well.
