Ramjet Films presents "Re-Birth"

Yeah. It really is a great place to meet folks, collaborate, share experiences, etc., etc., etc... and in your case, Ted, share hotel rooms and hot tubs :) I think I'll skip on the latter two this time, though. Maybe next fest

So much to learn, so little time. But it's great to have such talented and charitable folks to collaborate with and learn from.

Alright so here's an UPDATE that I am very excited about.

Larry_R (Larry Rutledge) - who originally offered up some ideas on my first draft, and was acting as a script consultant, has now agreed to be writer/co-writer for "Re-Birth".

I am very excited about this, as a) He will bring a fresh perspective and set of eyes to the story/process. b) I was highly impressed by the notes he offered up. c) It will allow me to focus on other aspects of the process.

Thanks Very MUCH to Larry_R

Jason

Congratulations on this Jason. Collaboration is what film making is all about.

Great news and you've got plenty of time to really put together a killer script if you guys click. What's your estimated time-line now for completion of pre-production and commencement of shooting?

Well, I figure we should have a solid first draft completed around March '07...That should give us plenty of time for Drama Fest: Redux

J/K I anticipate having a first draft done later this week, so hopefully we can edit it down to a solid draft so planning can begin late next week.

We're pretty happy with the latest draft, now deciding how to proceed as it is too long in it's current draft.
I am laughing a little bit because when we were sitting around the pool in Thermal and Brandon pitched the story it was great, but I think we went past 6 minutes before we got to the third act :) It was a captivating story and I remember I told Ted, well, when you have a story that full you have to "kill off some of your children" to make it shorter and I wouldn't want to be Brandon's group having to make those decisions. So, I don't envy you as there were so many interesting scenes that I know would be hard to give up.

Thanks, Ravin. It's not a problem. I need to do some catching up in everyone's threads. I have been a little busy.

To answer the question about the script: What Larry said. :)

Seriously, he is anticipating having a rough draft to me by the end of the week. And then we will go from there. I figure if that timetable goes as expected, then I can bounce some of my idea's/concerns, etc. off of him over the weekend, and we can get something fleshed out by the end of next week. I don't want to rush him, as I know he has his own life. Right now I don't see a need to. I would really like to get a meaty script, so that is the focus on that end of things right now.

On my end, while Larry's talents are helping to take that load off of my back, I will be doing some planning of the shooting schedule, and some general shooting tests; trying to find the look that I want for each scene. I am getting some decent looks now, I think, so that is encouraging. But this flick is my opportunity to learn about the HVX (among other things).

As far as shooting. I anticipate the bulk of it being done over two weekends. Other miscellaneous shots, will be done whenever.

Looking ahead, it would be nice to have a solid month in post, and a week beyond that for fine-tuning, final output expirementation, etc.

I would like to have some rough cuts of the flick to Leo before that time, to make sure he has adequate time to plan and get ideas. I will also send him the next draft that Larry comes up with.

So, a little long winded, but that pretty much brings you up to date.

P.S.- I may be working on some BTS rehearsal footage tomorrow as well. Look for that possibly by mid-week. First I have to film a "Christmas" video with the wife and baby tomorrow, so we can send it off to her parents in Indonesia.

Thanks for the comments,
Jason

Sounding good man, we also want at least a month of post time but it's hard trying to get people with lives to shoot during the holiday season.

Finding a look for your HVX is one of hardest parts and it will help from spending too much time in post production doing a lot of color-correcting (other than small adjustments to make shots match each other).

Keep up the good work - Jeremy

Did a little house cleaning on the first post and updating. I was attempting to fix some formatting issues. Everytime I edit a post, some of the stuff that I had centered slams back to the left margin. It didn't work :( Oh, well. I trimmed it down. Had to get rid of some of my updates because the post was 4k characters too long.

Updated and condensed

Jump cuts. :2vrolijk_08:

Larry gave me some great notes as well as points to ponder and keep in mind for later. Also, a GREAT take on my ending. He gave it what I think is a crucial emotional impact and he didnt even change a single syllable I had already written. Impressive! :)

Well, the protagonist is a persistent Mexican Jumping Bean, so that should be easy

Thanks, I'm blushing now....I'm just glad my comments helped. Nothing worse than giving thoughts, opinions, feedback and have none of it ring true with the other person.

Hey, Ted - For me, the HVX has a huge learning curve. But I haven't used another camera since the Sony DCR-TRV950, which is nothing like this bad boy. It really is an amazing camera. Frustratingly amazing. It's real easy to make your footage look like crap :)

Yes, Larry has some great advice to give. I am very anxious to see what he comes up with now that he is inking the script for me. I am just letting him go from scratch and write whatever he comes up with. Then we can go from there.

It's getting exciting! Well, I have to go through some footage of the wife and baby that we shot today for her parents. She was speaking in Indonesian to them, and was apparently talking about my daughters shoes. Afterwards she was like "You didn't go down to her shoes when I was talking about them". To which I replied, how am I supposed to know what you are talking about? I don't speak Indonesian...

Take care. Thanks for the comments folks

LOL!!! That's funny!!!

Ok folks, today's the day. I have typed FADE IN and am now writing Draft 1 of RE-BIRTH.

This is a fun challenge, writing two very different scripts at essentially the same time (good thing they aren't features).
