RAM issue in AE

Running AE on my big machine, MacPro 14gb RAM, 4tb HDD, Quadro 5600. And when i run AE it says I have 3gb of RAM.

Anyone know the issue here?

The issue is AE caps you at 3 gigs of ram. It's lame. You're also probably only using about 30% of your processor power. Look into Nucleo Pro 2, which is about the only viable option to uncap all that, although it is pretty glitchy itself I am finding out.

If you have CS3, you can set it up to take advantage of multiple processors.

I could be wrong about this, but I think if you have the multiple processor option activated, then After Effects will handle 3 gigs of ram per processor.

This is true for the Windows Version, in a 64-bit operating system. I don't see why the Mac version would be any different (OSX 10.5 is fully 64bit)

It works that way on OS 10.5. I have it setup that way now, working a hell of a lot better.

The application itself is limited to 3GB, but when you render (RAM preview or otherwise) additional instances of AE run in the background, one for each core using up to 2GB of RAM. So for a Dual Quad machine, that would be a full 16GB of RAM. Just make sure to check the multiprocessing option in the prefs.

Personally, I also prefer Nucleo Pro 2 for rendering and RAM management.
