Ralph Lauren commercial shot with 5D MII

We need a checklist for grading videos.
Color grading 1-10, 10 being the best
Lighting 1-10
audio
artistic merit
etc., etc, etc

especially for cosmetic commercials. They always look lifeless to me. I guess it's the style.
I'm always left with the thought - Who are they selling to?

I personally would have never created a commercial with soooo many out of focus scenes, hand held feel or risk such high shutter.
You know what? I loved it. The more I look at it, the more I like it.
It is a branding commercial not a product commercial. It may even be a spec. Who cares?
The timing on the editing is perfect. The color correction was well thought out.
It is provably the best use of this camera I've seen so far.
I know it is easier to be a Critic that a creator.
I challenge anyone that disagree to show me a better use of this camera.
I don't care if it is yours or not.

DISCLAIMER: Not directed at any particularly sensitive people out there.

I've seen plenty better use of the 5D2 than this example... stillmotion's wedding videography, stuff by Rich-Lee, Jeremy Cowart are all light years ahead of this.

It's not the best I have seen but its really good. I think people got too hung up on the out of focus shots but I think it works well in this ad. I had seen it prior to it being posted here and was shocked by some of the negative response.

Heres a DJ Khaled music video I did with the 5D2 a couple months ago. (You can watch it in HD too) Not the same style as the commercial, but same camera...

I was one of the first to compare the camera image with the RED.
I think that the camera with right script, director, DP, actors, editor, etc., could do almost as good as the RED. (no over-under cranking, Raw, sound, monitoring, etc)
I saw a comparison with the RED that made the RED look bad.
Is the RED less of a camera? Definitely not, but by looking at that comparison you would think so.
To conclude, the 5D is a great tool at an affordable price and easy to buy from any camera store and even Best Buy.

If you thought that Ralph Lauren Spec was the best you've seen, then you've had a truly deprived 5D2 experience..

Rich Lee's 5D2 test video are not online anymore..
Like I said in my previous post. The camera is good.

The difference is what you do with it.
Average looking videos with a sharp, short DOP is still average.
I have seen plenty of average looking videos in 30 years.

Boy, I wish I'd found this thread earlier

we first posted the video over on planet5D on the 12th... please read our post for some info directly from the author:

http://blog.planet5d.com/2009/06/ralph-lauren-promotional-video-made-with-canon-eos-5d-mark-ii/

Note that the video is a promotional piece for a high end shopping outlet and NOT for Ralph Lauren directly... not that it matters for the content of the piece, but it wasn't shot for RL directly.

We at planet5D welcome those of you who haven't heard of us - but we're the home of the 'best Canon 5D information on the planet!"

wow... i sure hope all of you haters have amazing reels and client lists. i think this piece does what its supposed to do... which is not impress DPs and wanna-be's... but impress its audience and the AD/and Client paying for it. i dont know this director, DP who shot the Lauren thing, but i think he/she did a fine job...and i dont see how ( if the piece sucks, which it doesnt), it warrants aggressive/brutal review anyway. the overly harsh critique smacks of arrogance.
and to the dude calling out the journaling in coffeeshops thing... i liked the joke better on family guy...next time put an asterick for footnote/credit.
